Sunday's Service - April 19, 2020

Join us this Sunday for Worship - 10:30am

Spend Sunday morning online with us as Pastor Mike delivers his sermon. Use the Facebook link Connecting Life and let's learn together from Pastor Mike's message, at 10:30am. Remember that while we are apart, we can still pray and Worship as a church family.

CG NEWS & EVENTS

Our Easter Cross

Thank you to Rachel and Mike for draping our cross to celebrate Resurrection Sunday
and for taking this beautiful picture! He is risen, indeed!

Bible Studies

Our in-person Bible studies are currently paused. The ladies have been keeping in touch by email and are working out an online meeting for next week.
Do you have any favorite verses, an uplifting devotion, or a prayer request? Please send them in and share with your church family!

Reach Out & Stay in Touch

One of the easiest ways to stay in touch right now is through social media. If you don't have an account, now may be the perfect time to sign up for Facebook and Instagram. We post at CGCC on Facebook and CGCC on Instagram frequently. We would love to be able to connect more with you through these online platforms. They are excellent at helping us to share thoughts and stick together through this difficult time.

Beyond social media, using the website, email, text, and "snail" mail are also great options! Staff are in and out of the building throughout the week, so we will receive any mail you might want to send. We miss you and look forward to being able to gather together again!

Church Family Photo Challenge

We miss your faces! We miss worshiping together! We miss chatting in the Great Room! We miss seeing the kids run through the building playing hide-and-seek! We miss Sunday morning Bible Study and Wednesday morning ladies Bible Study! So, we invite you to cheer us up with FAMILY PHOTOS! Make us all smile by emailing or texting a photo to Jen Lynch, to be shared in the Scoop and/or on social media. Or, share your photo on the Common Ground Facebook page directly. Take a picture while you do online church on Sunday. Take a picture cooking or eating together. Reading the Bible together? Take a picture! Working on a community project like mask making or sidewalk chalking a message? Take a picture! Going on a Bear Hunt? You get the idea...take a picture! While we cannot be physically together, we can still connect with each other and share what we have going on in our lives. And, isn't that what family is all about?!?!

Garden & Nursery News

Missing Our Garden/Sprout/Nursery Kids!

While we are apart, try some Bible learning at home. This week's featured lesson from Ministry-To-Children is about having faith in Jesus. Head on over to that lesson right here: Doubting Thomas

Teddy Bear Pictures

When the bears went out a couple weeks ago, we received great pictures of some of our kids that we then shared to spread smiles to all. Somehow the pics below didn't make it into the Scoop and the smiles they will bring are definitely needed. So, sorry for the unplanned delay and now enjoy the cuteness of the Bendersmiths! Bet this'll brighten your day! (In Sarah's words, "Taking pictures of tots is a trip.)

Colin with a YG card.

The Youth Group remains in touch through texting and through snail mail cards. The pictures they sent in last week to thank essential workers have all been shared on social media. Thanks, youth, for helping to put some goodness out into the world! The youth also received a beautiful thank you note from Aunt Elaine for the pictures they made for her. You can check out a photo of that on the Common Ground Facebook or Instagram pages.

Youth Group participants have received their next challenge from their youth leader. The deadline for this challenge is tonight at 10pm. Four members have already completed it! We know they are all up to meeting any task they are given!

Youth Group Quarantine Challenge

Youth Group members received texts on Wednesday morning with a new task. This is the first in a series of challenges they will be receiving over the next few weeks. Participants who complete a challenge and text their answer to Jen by each deadline will earn points...to be translated into prizes when we can meet again. These challenges will have them digging into the Word to find specific topics, verses, or answers to questions. We may not be able to meet in person to take a look into the Bible like we normally do, but we can still spend some time seeking answers in the Good Book - and hopefully learn some lessons on the way!

1 Timothy 4:12 ~ "Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity."

Prayer

Who are you praying for today? Whenever you have a prayer request, please don't hesitate to send it in! We are all still here to pray with and for you.

Bags and boxes for people to carry their "new" items home with them are also needed! ~~~~~~~

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.

Matthew 25: 35-36, 40

Blackout Poetry Contest

April is National Poetry Month, so the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is giving you a chance to indulge in some “creative destruction” and express your inner poet!
The contest is open to teens and adults and will have 2 winners in each category.

Participating in the Blackout Poetry Contest is easy:
1.) Grab a newspaper, magazine article, or page from an old book. Any block of text will do.
2.) Grab a marker and “black out” the all words you don’t want, leaving behind the ones you like, and pretty soon you’ll have a poem.
3.) Take a picture or scan your finished poem and email it to: programmingdepartment@libraryvisit.org
Be sure to turn in your entries by April 30th, 2020. Good luck, and have fun!

Info on the Library website here: Blackout Poetry Contest
