Encouragement

From the devotional website, Today,
Rev. Art Schoonveld wrote this at the start of a new calendar year but it is equally applicable as a new school year...and a new "Sunday School" year...begins.

God Goes Before Us
While visiting in the Philippines, my wife and I spent some time on Corrigedor Island. We toured some old tunnels that were dug there at General MacArthur's headquarters during World War II. I wasn't sure how stable those tunnels were, but our guide assured us they were safe. He had been there before, and he was going to walk ahead of us. With a flashlight in one hand and a walking stick in the other, we made it safely through. That tour was just a simple illustration of what God invites us to do as we begin a new year. We don't know what's ahead. We can't look into the future. But God can! God assures us that he knows what's ahead. The entire year is spread out before the Lord. He knows our future. And the same God who knows all about the year ahead promises to go with us every step of the way. God himself will be our guide, and he will guide us through. He knows the challenges that will face us, the obstacles that are before us. He invites us simply to follow him. And to help us on our way, God offers us the light of his Word. As the psalmist puts it, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (119:105). All we have to do is keep our eyes on the Lord, listen to what he says, and follow him.

Lord, help us to keep our eyes on you, and teach us how to listen as you call us to follow you.
Give us your wisdom and grace, we pray. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

The LORD himself ... will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
~ Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV)

This is a sad week at GG as tomorrow is the final day with our interns Cameron and Keaton for this summer. We will be celebrating them as well as Caleb's birthday tomorrow. We wish Cam and Keaton a great year at OU but we sure will miss them!

This week we have worked on our compost pile (Keep those compostables coming! Thanks!), unloaded lots of donations in the warehouse, weeded, cleaned, made jam for upcoming shows, and enjoyed a walk in the woods while checking for downed trees. Our CSA folks are getting homemade spaghetti sauce today, so we took a shopping field trip to WalMart on Tuesday - where we met Pastor Mike and Hannah to also pick up items for today's Lunch with Pastor Mike. (Yum! Thanks, Pastor Mike!!!) Wednesday was sauce making day...and there may still be traces in the kitchen telling that tale! Of course, today everyone is very busy with harvesting and preparing the shares. Hard to believe there is only one month left of this CSA season.

On Saturday, we'll be in Canfield at the Makers Market at The Roundabout. As their Facebook page says, "Discover a wide range of unique, handmade products crafted with love and creativity. From art to home decor and so much more, you'll find something truly special! Supporting local artisans not only means bringing home one-of-a-kind treasures but also empowering our community's creative spirit." Come out to see Rachel and Kitty with our jams and catnip toys and discover a whole bunch more local vendors and makers!

I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

you were doing it to me.
