Bev Beirne Autumn 2019

‘Such is Beirne’s skill that she sings these pop favourites as though she were singing Gershwin, Porter or Berlin…’

JAZZ JOURNAL, Derek Ansell **

Engaging, sophisticated…it’s pure jazz.’

ALL ABOUT JAZZ

“It’s raw, energetic and her vocal is both sassy and commanding”.

LIMAHL

“Beverley has a very special album here”.

GRAMMY WINNING PRODUCER, Jason Miles

‘Beirne’s vocals are sublime, she scats and soars, stretching syllables over slinky sax lines.’

JAZZ IN EUROPE, George Cole

“I love the jazz version of Noize…Fab Singer!”

NODDY HOLDER

‘A very tasty little album, it’s magical…!’

BBC RADIO +LONDON, Duncan Barkes

‘Beverley wows with her wonderful also voice…suddenly these songs are sung like standards.’

KIND OF JAZZ, Sammy Stein **

‘Beirne’s vocals often sound like the phrasing of a tenor saxophone. She knows how to hit those notes and get in between the cracks of them like a virtuoso instrumentalist.’

LA JAZZSCENE, Doc Wendell

‘Beirne has a talent for recognizing within these songs the seeds of jazz…the phrasing’s and rhythms that can bring out swing that might not be obvious to many…’

'Jazz Just Wants to Have Fun' album cover

Raised on a diet of Jazz and 80s pop, British Jazz Singer Beverley Beirne has combined the two with her latest freewheeling, stylistically expansive new album and project Jazz Just Wants To Have Fun which she is set to tour with this Autumn. Singing with an honest and heartfelt, deep-soul sensuality and scatting with abandon in places that would do Ella proud, she swings both lightning fast and seductively slow on clever and stylish re-imaginings of perfectly chosen 70s and 80s hits.

JJWTHF was produced by the Grammy winning producer Jason Miles, whose many credits include (Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Diana Krall, Aretha Franklin, Marcus Miller). The album was released on Nova/Universal and the launch was celebrated at the famed Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club Upstairs last year, where none other than Noddy Holder was in the audience listening to Beverley’s version of his song ‘Come On Feel The Noise.’ As well as receiving 4 ** reviews and features worldwide, Jazz Just Wants To Have Fun has been played on radio worldwide, including BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio London, Jazz FM, London Jazz Radio, LA Radio, Louch Life and many more and was also considered for Grammy Nominations this year.

Beverley in Black

The irresistible JJWTHF show, is set to include a sassy swing through Slade’s ‘Come on Feel The Noize’; a vocally seductive, piano pounding jam of Adam and the Ants ‘Prince Charming’; a sultry, vocally astounding, take on Kim Carnes’ Bette Davis Eyes; a fast boiling, scat and sax happy visit to ‘Ghost Town’ by The Specials; a properly lush and elegant tribute to that glorious moment ‘When Smokey Sings’ ABC’s homage to Smokey Robinson; a marvelously scatty, hip arrangement of M’s Pop Muzik (now Jazz Muzik); a speed limit breaking rhythmic jaunt on Too Shy in which Beverley sings wildly against the rhythm; and a marching New Orleans stomp twist on Billy Idol’s Hot in the City…alongside other fantastic songs from the album and more unexpected tunes given a jazz spin.

Performed by Beverley and her killer London based band, John Crawford (piano), Flo Moore (Bass), Ben Brown (Drums), Rob Hughes (Sax & flute), Beverley finds meaningful magic – via her alternately witty and intimate phrasing, as she vibes beautifully and riffs powerfully on astonishing arrangements of songs we didn’t realise we loved so much…!
