You're probably receiving this email because you've read my first novel, The Thirteen Treasures of Britain, or because you're interested in reading it, or because you've read some of my other writing and thought I sounded like a vaguely interesting person with whom you'd like to share a correspondence, or you were mesmerized by my Twitter witticisms and somehow found yourself typing your email address into the sign-up form on my website. Or perhaps none of these things are true, and you're here for some other mysterious reason.

No matter! Whatever the reason, I'm glad you've decided to join my intrepid crew.

First, let me say, I know how annoying the glut of emails and promos can be when they fill up our inboxes, so I promise that I won't spam you with a bunch of annoying emails.

I think of my mailing list as a community: a place where we can share cool stuff and geek out about what's happening in fantasy (and sometimes science fiction). Hopefully you love to read fantasy -- from epic to urban, from old-school to new-school -- because that's what I love, and that's what I want our community to be about.

I think of myself as a reader of "eclectic fantasy": I don't just read epic or high fantasy; I like urban, sword & sorcery, weird fantasy, and even magical realism. For me, "fantasy" is a genre that's wonderfully diverse and infinitely huge; why restrict myself to just one kind of book? My fantasy reading is varied, and my fantasy writing is as well.

If you are anything like me, then you'll love being on this list and part of this community. I'll be sending you updates on my latest books, links to books by other authors that I adore, free stories and novellas that aren't available in stores, and all kinds of fantasy-genre-related goodies.
