TRUE TO OUR MISSION

Glynwood Appeal enews

The Future of Food & Farming

Glynwood is approaching an historic milestone in 2017: Our 20th anniversary as a nonprofit organization. Undaunted by our current political climate, we are more energized than ever to stick to our "roots." While our mission and programs have evolved over time, we have remained true to our original objective: to address the distinct challenges of agriculture in the Hudson Valley and bolster the region’s health, prosperity and cultural vibrancy.

Sustainable farming has never been more important for our shared future. Your contribution to our year-end fundraising campaign provides tangible benefits for the farmers, food professionals and communities we serve, for example:

▪ $50 helps a local farmer participate in a practical skills workshops
▪ $100 helps an apprentice travel to a regional farming or food systems conference
▪ $250 helps a local family receive a low-cost, subsidized CSA share
▪ $500 facilitates our guided, interactive family farm tours
▪ $1,000 supports an apprentice through one year of farmer training

Donations of any amount, which are tax-deductible, make a difference! Thank you for all that you do to support the future of food and farming in the Hudson Valley

OPPORTUNITIES

Farm Business Incubator: Deadline extended!

The deadline for initial applications and letters of intent for Glynwood’s Hudson Valley Farm Business Incubator (HVFBI) has been extended to January 6, 2017, with the 2017 program beginning in early next May.

HVFBI is taking the "long view" on supporting a new generation of farmers in the region, equipping participants with the tools and guidance to successfully get there. Visit our website for more information and help us spread the word!

2017 Apprentices

We are also seeking applicants to our 2017 Apprentice Program, for vegetable and livestock farmers. In addition to hands-on experience, apprentices complete a comprehensive classroom curriculum. A private room onsite at Glynwood, a weekly stipend and workers compensation insurance are provided.

UPCOMING EVENTS

EOY2

Farm Dinner: January 19

At our first dinner of the new year, find out how your taste buds play a role in protecting, promoting and proliferating locally sown and grown seeds. Chef Jay Lippin of Crabtree's Kittle House is at the helm, expanding the tastings he created for The Drunken Pumpkin into a hearty multi-course meal.

A collaboration with Hudson Valley Seed Co., Kitchen Cultivars unites farmers and restaurateurs in raising awareness for regional biodiversity and food culture. We showcased Hank's X-tra Special Baking Bean last year in a cozy cassoulet - a celebration that made its way across the Valley and beyond. Our star of the show this year is the Long Island Cheese Pumpkin, one of the oldest varieties cultivated in the United States and a surprisingly versatile ingredient for sweet and savory dishes.

Tickets are available starting today!

COMMUNITY

Hudson Valley Farm Business Incubator: News from the Field

An inaugural participant in our Incubator (2015 cohort), Community Compost Company (CCC) continues to innovate farm-to-table composting. Their new video shows just how much kids enjoy minimizing food waste at schools.

Grass + Grit Farm (2016 cohort) is now taking orders for winter meat & egg shares, with distribution beginning the week of January 9. Shares include a full selection of responsibly-raised meat and eggs for pick-up in Beacon, Newburgh or Wappingers.

Grass + Grit does not raise cattle, but not to worry! Back Paddock Farm (2016 cohort) has launched a 100% grass-fed beef winter CSA share for pick-up in Poughkeepsie through April 2017.

Winter Sales Hours

While our Farm Store is closed for the season, not to worry! We've set up shop for the winter in our Farm Office, by our red barns, open to the public Thursdays 3-6pm. We've relocated our inventory of shelf-stable items from local producers, plus ample quantities of Glynwood meat and winter vegetables for sale a la carte.

Meat Shares

Winter meat shares are still available, which include 10 bi-weekly pickups of approximately 12 lbs. of our pasture raised meat, plus one dozen eggs. Shares are $1,000 each (a 15% discount over our retail prices) and payments can be made in up to four installments.

Pick-ups are on Thursdays during Farm Office hours. The first was December 1, so shares are now pro-rated. For more information, please email Ken Kleinpeter.

Our animals are pasture-raised. The diets of our egg-laying chickens, meat birds and pigs are supplemented with non-GMO feed, and our cattle and sheep are strictly grass-fed and grass-finished. We are Animal Welfare Approved (AWA) for the rearing of our ruminants, pigs and poultry.
