November 13: Justice For John Collado

Justice for John Collado
Friday, November 13, 10 am at City Hall Plaza steps, east entrance on Park Row across from Pace University.

A grandfather and former pro-wrestler, John Collado was shot to death by police outside of his Inwood apartment four years ago. James Connolly, the cop who murdered John Collado, is being given an award on Friday, November 13, at One Police Plaza.

On September 6th, 2011, Collado intervened when he came upon a fight between a friend and another man who turned out to be plainclothes narcotics detective. Police said Collado was choking the officer when he was fatally shot. Security camera footage showed Collado never had the cop in a chokehold. In 2012, a grand jury failed to indict the cop.

The Collado family is calling for a protest around this. We begin that day with a press conference at 10 AM on City Hall steps. After which we will march over to One Police Plaza.

Stop Police Terror -- Which Side Are You On?

Mass Meeting November 14 at 4 PM
Location: Project Reach, 39 Eldridge Street 4th Floor, Chinatown
(between Canal & Hester Streets - D train to Grand Street)

This is going to be the place to get organized and move forward to end these horrors. You are needed!

We are going to meet and plan how to build off the advances we made in the three days of #RiseUpOctober.

We have begun to crack open in society that people must stop police terror. If you were inspired by the 100 families of people killed by police that marched in New York on October 24, and the voices of conscience like Carl Dix, Cornel West, Eve Ensler, Quentin Tarantino, Gina Belafonte and others, that were part of #RiseUpOctober; if you were overjoyed that people sat down at the entrance to the debtors prison and torture chamber called Rikers Island and stopped traffic in and out; if you were challenged by “Stop Police Terror! Which Side Are You On?” and are on the right side; if you saw the national and international press coverage of people in New York exposing to the world that the police in this country are murdering Black and Latino people with impunity and thought this is about time; then you are needed on November 14at this mass meeting.

There is a place for you in this! All the organizations, faith institution, student groups, community organizations, and people that were part of #RiseUpOctober need to be at this meeting. Pick a side and declare that the murder of Black and Latino people is illegitimate. Terms are being set as to what will be tolerated and what will be opposed. Lives are at stake.

Be part of determining the outcome.

PROTEST November 22 Anniversary of the Murder of 12 year old Tamir Rice

Sunday, 2:00 PM, November 22, 2015
Union Square South, 14th & Broadway

Join the Stop Mass Incarceration Network on November 22 in outrage. ONE YEAR ago, Tamir Rice was killed in less than two seconds of police arriving to the park where he was playing. One year since the murder of Tamir Rice with NO justice for his family. A Grand Jury investigation has begun in Cleveland, OH but by the actions of county prosecutor Timothy McGinty it is possible that we will see a repeat of the decision not to indict the officers responsible for killing Tamir, as we saw with Eric Garner and Michael Brown and too many others.

We will be honoring his memory and family with an outdoor protest, speaking about the need for a new direction in society that demands “Police terror and murder must stop NOW!”

If we got in the streets to remember every single person that police have killed, we would never go home. We would be in the streets every day, because people are being killed every day. We must keep speaking their names. We must continue to organize, stand together, and demand change. We deserve to live in a country where the color of your skin does not give the state a pass to commit murder.

Stop Police Terror! Which Side Are You On?

We will return to 14th Street and Union Square on Thursday December 3, one year after the cops who murdered Eric Garner were exonerated.
