Copy of Perfect is the enemy of great 1

Hi there,

We've been talking a lot about perfectionism in the shop lately. From beginning knitters who are frustrated with the irregularities in their practice swatch, to very experienced knitters so critical of their work that even the tiniest of errors can send their project to the frog pond (rip-it, rip-it, rip-it)

There's a huge gulf between perfectionism and healthy striving. Healthy striving is working hard and doing your very best. We're all about that at the shop. On the other hand, perfectionism is a paralyzing focus on doing something perfectly or creating something perfect. Perfectionism is not constructive. Psychology researcher, Dr. Brené Brown explains it best when she calls perfectionism a shield we use to protect ourselves from vulnerability and pain. If we're perfect, then no one can criticize us, right? No one will make fun of what we've made because it's perfect, right? And if they do criticize us or laugh, then what we made, and by extension, who we are, isn't perfect enough, continue reading

Going on and coming up

Getting pretty excited about our Shibui Mix Party this week.
Shibui is a beautiful and sophisticated line. Chic designs, elegant fibers, and wearable colors make Shibui the choice for discerning knitters. Shibui yarns are wonderful on their own, but because their yarns share a color palette, they can be mixed to create interesting and subtly complex fabrics. At the Shibui Mix Party you'll have a chance to play with the fibers, swatch different combinations, to see what works best for your taste and your project.

Attendees will enjoy 10% off Shibui that evening and will be entered to win a lovely Shibui project. So many gorgeous yarns and designs. I'm thrilled to have them in the shop and to be able to share them with you. Come indulge yourself. Shibui Mix Party

Intro to frop spindle

Give the spindle a whirl. It's like a child's wooden toy. At your fingertips a soft fiber puff twists itself into a silky strand --an almost magical transformation as full becomes yarn before your very eyes. So simple, so powerful. This is how yarn was made for generations, and still is in many parts of the world.
