Chalk the Lot

TOMORROW, 6:30-8pm
Event for all ages!
Youth Group member, Audrey Shannon, and her friend Alaina came up with a summer-fun activity that is packed full of social distancing potential. Way to be creative, ladies! So, we are inviting you to come Chalk Our Lot next Friday evening. We will have some sidewalk chalk available here or you can bring your own. (We will have hand sanitizer available.) With chalk in hand, families or individuals can disperse throughout our parking lot and fill the lot with chalk art! Draw pictures, write Scripture, chalk encouraging thoughts...the sky is the limit, as long as it is family friendly. We will have a designated parking area, along the bottom of the lot under the trees, leaving the rest of the parking lot a blank canvas for your art. Drop in anytime from 6:30-8:00 and let your creativity flow! (This is, of course dependent on the weather cooperating! We will reschedule in the event of storms.)

Ecclesiastes 3:11 - He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Men's Ministry Gathering

Due to the high likelihood of storms on Saturday, this gathering has been postponed. We'll let you know the new date as soon as we get it scheduled. Keep your camp chair and bug spray at the ready!

Collide Kids Wednesday's Weekly Video:
Love One Another

This lesson teaches us that, as followers of Jesus, we are to love one another! As it says in 1 John 4:7, "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God..."

Danielle gives fun discussion starters in these lessons, like this week's question - Who would you vote for to be the hall monitor at your school? We'd love to hear your answers! Feel free to let us know by email or on Facebook. Big thanks to Danielle Taylor and Pastor Mike for all their work on this weekly online way to connect and grow!

Summer Ideas for Kids

Embracing the Virtual Sleepover

From "The Week" online parenting newsletter, a weekly roundup of parenting insights from scientists and family experts (Parenting Ideas):

It's probably not safe for kids to host or attend sleepovers with their friends right now, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, but one dad named Andrew tells Lifehacker he's found a temporary workaround for his daughter: video sleepovers. "On Friday [or Saturday] evenings, she can arrange a video chat 'sleepover' with a friend, where she's allowed to stay up as late as she wants to chat / play / make art with a friend since she can't do those things in person," he says. Lifehacker's Meghan Moravcik Walbert applauds the idea, and suggests some ways to make it even more special, including setting up a tent and coordinating with other parents so the kids can eat the same dinner and snacks together. "Implement as few rules as possible and let them stay up as late as they want," she says. "They'll be tired tomorrow, but they don't have anywhere to be anyway."

Thank you to Marcia for sharing and Darla for writing these weekly words of encouragement. May we all seize our opportunities to bless others, this week and beyond.

"God is certainly blessing us with some nice Summer weather. Thanking God for the rain this afternoon. The gardens and flowers are singing and dancing! He cares for all of us along with the flowers! We are His stunning flowers that shine for Him."

"The word God laid on my heart this week is OPPORTUNITY. We are all given opportunity each day. It is our choice what we do with it. I took the opportunity when Covid-19 started to encourage you all with a weekly email. I have been so blessed doing this. You are all very near and dear to my heart for sure. We need to take advantage of our opportunities when God places in our path. Tell someone they look nice. Smile/wave at someone. Send a card or note to someone. Buy someone's meal in the drive-thru. Reach out to someone you haven't seen or talked to in a while. Hold the door open for someone. Pray with someone (and if you say you will pray for someone - please do). Try to only say kind words. Forgive someone (God will give you this opportunity if you ask Him). Take a meal to someone that may not be able to get out. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to the right opportunity. This will be so rewarding to us all! The giver and the receiver. Be a blessing to someone by catching that OPPORTUNITY!"

~ Darla Smith

Galatians 6:10 ~ Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all,
especially to those who are of the household of faith.

News of the Week

This week's hot weather has made us keep to a careful schedule of only working outdoors in the mornings and taking frequent water and shade breaks. We still accomplished plenty, working on weeding the front flower beds and taking care of the CSA. Inside we made jam, cleaned, observed our creature friends we're caring for, and more. Pastor Mike was a taste tester for our Hot Jungle Jam this week and we think we've made another Jungle Jam fan! Thanks, Pastor Mike!!

Below are some pictures from what might have been the tastiest part of our week. On Wednesday, we took refuge inside for a refreshing Hogan's donut break. Yum! Big thanks go to Miss Rachel for this welcome surprise!

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
