Happy International Astrology Day! My pixies, how has this Venus retrograde been treating you? Of course it threw some annoying work people and annoying health issues at me at the start (in my 6th house of work and health, naturally), but it's been smoothing out (just keeping an eye on when it enters Pisces, my Moon sign!).

As for news, I will be selling astrology readings in April - woo! I sold readings in late January for February through April, but am going to be finishing up sooner than planned, so I'll be scheduling readings for the second half of April through June, so it's actually a little less availability. They'll be available likely the first week in April (don't worry, you'll get an email when they are!). When I made 3 months available in January, I sold out in a week, and this will be less time than that, soooo we'll see how long they last!

The month of April is a little rocky! To start the month, Venus is still retrograde (appearing to move backward), and she’s at the tail end of Aries to start April, and goes right into Pisces on the 2nd. So we’re a bit wobbly to kick April off, and we may have worse tempers, lack compassion and empathy, or seem extra cruel. The good news is, Venus retrograde ends April 15th. The bad news? Mercury retrograde begins April 9th! So there’s almost one week of overlap between the two, and even when Venus retrograde is over, Mercury retrograde is kicking us around. Mercury retrograde starts in Taurus, making us extra lazy and indulgent, and then goes into Aries April 20th, making us extra impulsive and selfish and combative. And oh yeah, Saturn retrograde begins April 6th in Sagittarius (and is square - hard aspect - Venus retrograde as she ends), and Pluto retrograde begins April 20th in Capricorn. How much more backward can we go? If ever there was a time to have an outlet, it’s this month!

Pushing that boulder aside, Mars enters airy Gemini on April 21st, making us think some more, and more, and more. We can identify more strongly with our ideas, work to take action with them, put together short-term plans, gather information, learn, and share what we know. Venus goes back in fiery Aries on April 28th in regular forward motion, and we can be a little more comfortable being take-charge and pushing on in our relationships and with our connections. The Sun enters practical Taurus on April 19th, and this tries to bring some grounded energy to us as we’re dealing with some amped up energy from the Mercury retrograde at the same time. Think calming thoughts . . .

We’ve got a full moon in Libra on April 11th, and Libra is the sign of peace and harmony and balance, all of which might have some issues with the full moon square Pluto. So we may be fighting a bit more with the full moon, but need to try harder to harness some of the Libra niceness. There’s a new moon in Taurus on April 26th, after Mercury exits Taurus, so we can work to be more grounded and stable with the new moon. Both of these moons are ruled by Venus, so there can also be a feeling of being more off with the full moon (which occurs while Venus is retrograde), but feel like we’re getting a better grip with the new moon (which occurs when the Venus retrograde is over).

Critical Progressed Moon

There are certain degrees in astrology called critical degrees, which occur roughly every 13 degrees throughout the Zodiac. These degrees are points of critical energy. When a progressed planets enters the critical degree, you experience a period in your life of critical energy, and you can feel a rush to do something, to get things done, to make a decision or take action, to make a change or get rid of something. What exactly it may be depends on the sign the progressed planet is in, and the natal and progressed houses it resides in at the time.

The progressed Moon moves the fastest of the progressed planets, spending about 2 ½ years in one sign, and is at 1 degree for about one month. This means when the progressed Moon is at the critical degree, you’ll experience the energy for about one month. This month can be a critical period for you. You may need to face something important, do something important, make important changes, or take big steps.

Since the Moon rules your emotions, having the progressed Moon at a critical degree often impacts you emotionally, and you can be more easily upset, more sensitive, your emotions more elevated or harder to control, and you can feel unsettled at your core or feel your internal foundation is shaky. There may need to be a shift in the foundation with something in your life, which can be unsettling but may very well lead to better things in the long run.

With the progressed Moon moving about 1 degree per month, you’ll experience the progressed Moon at a critical degree about once every 13 months, so just over every year. This is the most often that you’ll experience a progressed planet at a critical degree, and you can feel like it’s a pivotal time in the year that it occurs.

The critical degrees are:
0, 13, 26 degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn
8-9 and 21-22 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius
4 and 17 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces

When to Clean Your Closet

Spring comes along in the northern hemisphere, and you may be thinking about doing some spring cleaning. If your closet is bursting, maybe it is time! Astrologically, cleaning is ruled by Virgo, the 6th house, and Mercury. The Moon will go through your 6th house, be in the sign of Virgo, or be in your Mercury sign every month for 2-3 days at a time, and this can be the best time of the month for you to get cleaning. You can be more productive and efficient, and ready to clear the clutter.

It can also be a good time to clean your closet when you have a sextile or trine to your natal Mercury, 6th house cusp, or 6th house ruler by the transit (moving) planets. When it’s by the Sun, Mercury, Venus, or Mars, this will impact you for 2-5 days at a time, giving you a good window to sort through your closet and clear it out. Aspects by Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto can last for 2 weeks (Jupiter) up to 3 years (Pluto), so these aspects can give you much longer times for cleaning, and can show you doing more than just cleaning out your closet (more like cleaning out your life!).

A new moon in Virgo, in your 6th house, or that is conjunct, sextile, or trine your 6th house cusp, ruler, or natal Mercury can also be a good time to clean out and get organized.

For clothing specifically, your possessions are ruled by Taurus and the 2nd house, while fashion is ruled by Libra and the 7th house. All of these are ruled by Venus, so you can look for conjunctions, sextiles, and trines between transit Venus and your natal Mercury, natal 6th house cusp, or natal 6th house ruler, or between transit Mercury and your natal Venus. You can also use days where you have aspects going on to both your natal Venus and natal Mercury, 6th house cusp, or 6th house ruler.

If you’re going to give away what you want to get rid of, look for the involvement of Uranus and the 11th house (general charity) or Neptune and the 12th house (personal charity).
