Hello Solo Forum Members,

We have opportunities to share with you! Two from ourselves and one from friendly artist collective Tetrad.

SOLO LAB
When: 20th - 23rd June 2016 and 5th - 8th September 2016
Where: Trinity Centre, Bristol

Trinity Centre have offered us the use of their beautiful Fyfe hall for two SOLO labs. The SOLO labs will be for 4 artists to work over 4 days on their own solo projects, within each others company and support. SOLO labs are to explore emergent ideas or develop work already in progress, including opportunities for workshopping the material, showing and getting practitioner-centred feedback. The format and structure for the lab can be designed by the group, and may include working solo in the mornings and sharing in the afternoons, collective warm-ups, as well as evening conversations, over food.

These labs are unfunded so will be best suited to Bristol based artists. Artists based in other locations are welcome, we could support in finding you a place to stay but we unfortunately cannot cover travel expenses.

To express your interest in participating in a SOLO lab please email soloperformanceforum@gmail.com, with the following;
- A brief description of your practice
- What you would like to work on during the lab
- Which lab you would like to attend (June or September)

Deadlines: 26th May for June lab/13th June for September lab

SOLO and The Wardrobe Theatre
The Wardrobe Theatre in Bristol have partnered up with us to pilot a quarterly programme of new solo performance. This is a brand new scheme that we are excited about trying out, seeing how it works and how it can aid solo touring and promotion. Do you have a show you would like to perform in Bristol? Would you like to show it within the context of Solo Contemporary Performance Forum? Are you free on the 21st October? Get in touch if this sounds interesting to you at soloperformanceforum@gmail.com.

Residency with Tetrad; 'The Long and Short of It'
Where: The Curve, Leicester
When: 11th - 12th June 2016

12 performance makers from across the UK are invited to join a small group of East Midlands based artists to take part in Tetrad’s share-and-tear residency weekend ‘LONG AND SHORT OF IT’. Get to know each other and share ways of researching and developing performance across disciplines in an informal, investigatory space.

‘LONG AND SHORT OF IT’S’ main point of departure is storytelling. We are inviting artists that are, in some way, using storytelling within their performance practice and work. We are open to exploring different approaches to storytelling to question the nature of stories and how they could exist, live or evolve in a performance. Accounts, reports, gossiping, tales, fabrications, statements, recital, feature, testimony, whisper.... the list goes on!

Each artist who participates in the residency is expected to bring and share with the group some research around an area of storytelling that intrigues you or is informed by something within your work and practice. This could be in the form of a presentation, a collection of items, a short workshop, exercises, open discussion, film, sound, performance.

On day one each artist will present their research to the group and then collectively we will decide how to work and experiment with the landscape of thoughts and ideas that have been offered. The group will collectively work towards finding a way of presenting the weekends explorations in an open sharing towards the end of day two.

For artists outside of East Midlands that partake in this residency:
• Travel expenses will be covered and accommodation provided
• A sit down evening meal provided for all artists involved and hot drinks/snacks
• A public sharing/networking opportunity at the end of the weekend in front of invited audiences

To take part in the ‘LONG AND SHORT OF IT’ residency please email Tetrad with a short statement about your artistic practice and current performance work, alongside a proposal of what research around storytelling you might like to bring and how this could be shared with the group.
