Region VI Conference Celebrates 50 Years of Community Action

Community Action Agency directors and staff from across Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas and Louisiana gathered in San Antonio, TX, October 22-24 for the annual Region VI conference. Highlights included Keynote Speaker, Jeannie Chaffin, Director of the Office of Community Services, presenting an update on ROMA Next Generation and new Organizational Standards and how the changes will affect Community Action Agencies; and David Bradly, Executive Director of the National Community Action Foundation, presenting on what is happening in Congress regarding key CA programs and CSBG reauthorization.

Break-out sessions and workshops covered topics ranging from the OMB Super Circular changes, to immigration, CSBG Hot Topics and ROMA in the Real World. Dawn Hommer, Executive Director of CAASNM, together with Matt Hull of the Texas Association of Community Development Corporations presented on Social Enterprise to explore ways for CAAs to become self-sufficient though generating revenue while creating and providing needed services.

Region VI Head Start Conference

The Region VI Head Start Association Training Conference took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Albuquerque November 10-13, 2014. Topics included Foundations of School Readiness for Infants and Toddlers, Language Modeling and Conversations, Safe Sleep Environments, and Classroom Nutrition.
