Challenging Values

Today’s gospel starts with disciples obsessing over who’s number one, which leads Jesus to say something about God's take on importance and power. Here Jesus makes it explicit that the reversal of values in God’s community is a direct challenge to the values of the dominant culture, where wielding power over others is what makes you great. When we pray “your kingdom come” we are praying for an end to tyranny and oppression. We pray this gathered around the cross, a sign of great shame transformed to be the sign of great honor and service.

Guest Preacher & Adult Ed Presenter

Rahel Mwitula Williams

Sunday, October 21, 2018: Meaningful Moments Around the World We are pleased to welcome Rahel Mwitula-Williams as guest preacher on Sunday, October 21. Rahel was co-leader of an Immersion Mission Trip to Tanzania and Rwanda Sept. 20-Oct. 5 in which Rod Nordby and Nancy Anderson participated with ten other Lutherans from around the country. Join them at worship and Adult Education to learn more about the global Lutheran ministries in Africa. Rod and Nancy have also participated in an Immersion Mission Trip to Malaysia and Cambodia, and have found the vibrant and faithful ministries in these countries to be inspirational. Our sisters and brothers are doing great things in small, sometimes hostile environments to share the Good News.

Walking the Bible: Book of Faith

book of faith

Canceled October 18. Join Us Oct 25

Thursdays Thru November 4

1:00 & 7:00 pm

When you read the Bible, do you wonder what the landscape looked like? How high are the mountains? What was the Dead Sea like when Lot’s wife looked back? Where is the Reed Sea that Moses crossed? Here is your opportunity to see what the land looks like from the comfort of our own adult learning room.
Our Book of Faith Bible study takes us on a journey by land through the five books of Moses with a video that takes us from the birthplace of civilization (Mesopotamia) to Mt. Ararat to Harran to Egypt, and then back to the Promised Land. It took the Israelites 40 years but we will do it in six sessions, led by Pastor Stephen.

Annual Fall Yard Cleanup

October 27; 8:00 am

The trees are starting to turn and the nights are slipping from cool to cold. The farmers are starting to harvest the crops and pumpkins are sold everywhere. All signs of the annual fall clean-up. Once again leaves need to be raked, gutters cleaned out, sticks and debris gathered, dirt put into ruts and grass seed sown. Put the 27th of October on your calendar and join in this effort to spruce-up before the snow flies. We start at 8:00 am and go to about 10:00 am. Any amount of time you can work is appreciated. Bring your rakes, hand clippers and a willing spirit and the job will get done. Refreshments will be served.

See you at church!
