GEMAR CHATIMA TOVA! MAY WE BE SIGNED AND SEALED IN THE BOOK OF LIFE!

Tishrei 9, 5778/September 29, 2017

Yom Kippur, (which begins tonight) is referred to by Torah as Shabbat Shabbaton - the Sabbath of Sabbaths. It is the Day of Days on the Hebrew calendar. It is the day that the Kohen Gadol, (the High Priest), enters the Holy of Holies, the holiest of places, which is beyond the dimensions of time and space, and lays down the ketoret incense offering upon the Foundation stone from which the world was created, and upon which rests the Ark of the Covenant, the bearer of G-d's eternal bond with Israel. It is here that the Kohen Gadol utters a prayer on behalf of the entire nation, on behalf of all mankind.

This perilous, exhilarating moment in time and space is one we can all share with the Kohen Gadol if we take advantage of this opportunity to push ourselves to the limits of our being and stand before G-d as a beloved child before a Parent, as a valued subject before a benevolent King, with resolve in our hearts, determined to inform the coming year with the purity and promise of this moment.

It can be said that on Yom Kippur we are in the right place at the right time, where, by stepping outside of creation for the moment, we are granted the ability to recreate ourselves. This is the secret of teshuvah (repentance, return to G-d, return to ourselves), the active ingredient of G-d's love for us, which we all possess. Will we succeed? Our test lies in the moment after. Any change in ourselves can only be made real through the actions that we will be taking in this new year that greets us.

The Temple Institute extends our heartfelt blessings of a Chatima Tova (Inscription in the Book of Life) to all our friends, followers, supporters, fellow dreamers and builders of the Holy Temple, (soon, in our day!), and to the entire nation of Israel and all who trust in and honor the G-d of Israel!

Tune into this week's Temple Talk, as Rabbi Chaim Richman and Yitzchak Reuven ponder the eternal cleansing power of Yom Kippur & teshuva (repentance), ask the question, 'is my name in your book?' and relate the Yom Kippur experience: transfiguring, transforming, and transcending!

This Shabbat the world will be bathed in the cleansing and purifying light of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the holiest day of the year. In this remarkable preparatory installment of Temple Talk, Yitzchak Reuven and Rabbi Chaim Richman share their deepest thoughts regarding Yom Kippur, what it means for us all and how best to utilize the remarkable power and promise of the holy day. Plus: Why the murderous terror attack at Har Adar sheds light on truth about 'Palestinian' terror.

Yom Kippur is a chance to start anew and rewrite our own history with G-d's blessing. If only we believe in ourselves as much as G-d believes in us, we can not only change our own lives, but change the world, as well!

Gemar Chatima Tova! May we all be written and sealed in the Book of Life!
