Good Morning!

If you're one of our American readers, happy Memorial Day to you. Enjoy the longer weekend! We have enjoyed the nice weather outside and have been working hard to update our screened in porch...fun house projects!

This past week, we shared several new posts that readers have already responded very well to, so I'm excited to share them in our newsletter today. Let's get to it!

Sounding Out Short Vowel Words -CVC Words - FREE foldables - This Reading Mama

If your child needs some extra practice in sounding out simple CVC words, these foldable sound it out strips are for you! With 10 strips for each short vowel, kids unfold each letter, sound it out, then blend them together. One last unfolding reveals the CVC picture so kids can check their answer.
My daughter and I worked on these together. My main goal was to help her see that she CAN sound out some words and can start trying to in our reading of simple texts. {Note: not all words can be sounded out!!}

For more tips on helping kids sound out words, I encourage you to visit our post, Helping Kids Sound Out Words.

Summer reading is upon us! And this year, I had an idea pop in my head that I knew my kids {who love to color} would like. Instead of writing down titles of books they've read, they simply get to color in a summer reading log. 30 books are included on each page which equals about 1 book a day.

For more summer reading ideas, feel free to check out our two posts: My Top 10 Ways to Keep Kids Reading & Writing this Summer AND 10 Ways to Help Readers Grow this Summer.

And if it's not summer break where you are, included in the FREE pack are also generic Reading Logs kids can color and use ANY time of the year.

Long Vowel Spin and Spell - a Long Vowel Spelling Game - This Reading Mama

We shared a short vowel sound it out this week, so I thought we'd balance that with a Long Vowel Game my Kindergartner played called Spin and Spell. What a fun game to get kids spelling their CVCe pattern words! It beats a 1-dimensional worksheet any day!
