Sixth Sunday After Pentecost: Worship at 9:30 am

S20180701-LEC13 01

The Gospel for this Sunday:

Mark 5:21-43

Breaking Barriers

A woman finds healing by touching Jesus’ cloak, and a girl is restored to life when he takes her by the hand. In both cases a boundary is crossed: in Jesus’ time the hemorrhaging woman was considered ritually unclean, polluting others by her touch, and anyone who touched a corpse also became unclean. In Mark’s gospel Jesus breaks down barriers, from his first meal at a tax collector’s house to his last breath on the cross as the temple curtain is torn in two. We dare to touch Jesus in our “uncleanness” and to live as a community that defines no one as an outsider.

From the Executive Committee

important notice

We regret that drafts of the minutes from the congregational meeting on May 20, 2018, and the council meeting on May 21, 2018, were published in the June 2018 Dialogue without being reviewed. Those versions of the minutes included a few errors, and did not accurately reflect the actions taken at those meetings. An updated draft of the minutes of those two meetings are available on our website: click here, and hard copies are available under the Jumbotron. Our sincere apologies for the miscommunication. As a reminder, meeting minutes are not official until they have been approved by the next meeting of the same body (council or congregation), so the minutes printed in the Dialogue are drafts meant for informational purposes only. Thank you for understanding.

Use Your Voice

immigrant

The current “zero-tolerance” immigration policy is harming children and families. Here are three ways you can make your voice heard and work to fight the trauma caused by the current U.S. immigration policies.
1. Reach Out to Your Elected Officials: Has your elected official spoken out against family separation and detention? Find contact information for those who represent you in the U.S. Congress here. Consider sharing this helpful fact sheet from the Women’s Refugee Commission.
2. Join a rally. Join the Families Belong Together Madison rally at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30th at the capital.
3. Support Local Efforts: Family separation doesn’t just happen at the United States border, immigrant families in every state have been torn apart. You can support lawyers and advocates on the front lines here in Madison.

Donate to the Community Immigration Law Center (CILC), which operates out of Christ Presbyterian Church.

Volunteer with the Dane Sanctuary Coalition.
