Meet the Playwright

Award Winner Karen Cecilia

Karen Cecilia, author of IVY WALLS is based in Brooklyn. Her work has been seen in NYC at 3LD, La Mama, HERE Arts Center, Dixon Place, Theater For The New City, Theatre Odyssey, and The Firehouse Theatre, Richmond, VA. Her play Mea Culpa received Semi-Finalist award from The Orlando Shakespeare Theater in 2019.

She was the winner of the Walter Prichard Eaton Prize for Playwriting Excellence from Hunter College in 2014, a co-screenwriter on a movie produced by The Women’s Weekend Film Challenge. MFA: Playwriting from The Actors Studio Drama School.

IVY WALLS, directed by India Marie Paul, will feature Tahlia Chinault.

A college senior who works hard and sacrifices everything for her future finds herself in a situation with her dorm mate which challenges her to question everything she has worked for. (This play will be presented with a Content Warning.)

Four plays, all Florida premiers, are in the Second Annual One-Act Play Festival. Selected from 100 plays submitted from throughout the United States, the plays will be produced at the Bradenton Kiwanis Theater at Manatee Performing Arts Center, October 31 through November 3.
