Classes will be winding down soon. Check out the final class of the year on Dec 15 at noon--I'll be teaching one of my seasonal favorites!

Happy Bones are Healthy Bones

Yet another example of the mind-body interplay: life satisfaction appears linked to bone density. A study of the bone density of 2167 women in Finland, measured initially and ten years later, indicated that while each woman lost an average of 4% bone density, level of life satisfaction made a big difference. A questionnaire related to happiness, interest in and easiness of their life was used to assess life satisfaction. "In women whose life satisfaction deteriorated, the bone density weakened by 85% in comparison to women whose life satisfaction improved." Read More
Bone density is not the only factor in preventing falls and fractures, but it is perhaps the easiest to measure. Flexibility, coordination and body and movement awareness play a significant role as well. And it appears that finding purpose, meaning and social connection are key too!

End of Year Class - Tuesday, Dec 15

As the year comes to an end, my favorite class to teach is a lesson that uses folding and unfolding, opening upward and curling downward in a variety of positions. It's a quiet, rhythmic lesson, using the whole body. It has the title "Praying," probably because the initial and frequent position of the hands is with the palms together, fingers upward. It's a lovely lesson for shoulders, spine and hip joints and evokes for me a sense of gratitude for the blessings of the year ending and an openness to the year ahead.

This will be the final class in the series at the Friends Meeting House. All are welcome to join us. Here are details:

Where: Corvallis Friends Meeting House,
3311 NW Polk Ave, Corvallis
Parking available in front, and next to school yard playground across the street. Not in residential areas please.
Bring a blanket or mat for use on the carpeted floor and dress in layers to stay warm.

Muscles of the pelvic floor are involved in breathing, using the legs and pelvis for walking and other daily activities. Moving beyond Kegels, explore these connections to improve overall movement as well as specific continence issues. For women and men.
