This is how my newsletter started, reminding everyone of Winter Weather events and how many households can be affected by the flu.
Don't forget to season your Get Home (Auto) Bags and BOB's too.
After last nights reports and today social media dramas however, I feel it necessary to reiterate, one.step.at.a.time!
Yes we have our first diagnosis of Ebola, yes he came over on a plane to visit family, yes he flew into a major airport, yes many people have come in contact with him. The stories and nightmares grow from there, as you can imagine. Has it become airborne? No, there have been no reports of that. Is this something that we need to keep high on our radar, absolutely! This is why we prepare, so we will be ready for the unexpected emergencies. I am sure if I were to watch Contagion right now, I could freak myself out and be an absolute basket case over this, but I won't go there.
Am I making light of it? Absolutely not!
I got a real eye-roller of an email today '[URGENT] Ebola Panic: Be Ready!' REALLY???!!!
The best defense we still have is proper hygiene and common sense. Depending on your level of concern pick up a few N95 masks, which you can grab at any local drug or box store, even Lowe's has them..... Keep them nearby. Look into colloidal silver, that is a wonderful thing we have had in our prep closet for many years. The jury is still out though, so research and see what you think might be a good solution. Decide what is best for you and your family.
Whatever you do, don't let yourself be dragged into the dreaded pits of despair. Don't be panicking with the 'Buy It Now' button, like I talk about in my presentation. There is a LOT of misinformation going on and LOTS of people trying to sell LOTS of stuff. Unfortunately some of those people are out to make a quick buck and truly don't even have an interest in anything but the almighty dollar, or what is best for you. Arm yourself with knowledge!
Learn and share as I always say and help others come on board, by whatever means necessary. Most people can relate to the everyday emergencies, weather, flus, layoffs, etc. Plant those seeds and then maybe something will trigger to make them want to do more.
I won't get on a soapbox and most of you know how I feel about these things, especially after the personal conversations we have had.
This is a handout that I received from our local Emergency Manager, keep these things in mind. If this picture is too small, let me know and I can send you a full sized one.
