March Has Arrived

This week saw us in the kitchen with a volunteer! Sue Weaver came to make homemade macaroni and cheese with us on Wednesday, and it was amazing. We also experienced baking a yeast bread - Herb & Butter - from scratch. Of course, we also made some Jungle Jam, as we start gearing up for spring and summer events. Additionally, we spent time taking care of our newly started seeds, cleaned, took a trip to Menard's, had a few community members stop by to purchase jam, and much more! On Friday evening, GG will be in the big tent at the Austintown Plaza selling jam during the Youngstown Craft Beer Fest. Monday will kick off a new week with some Whispering Pines' volunteer time.

Fresh Produce Coming Soon

Common Ground's Youth Group helped us kick off this year's planting season! The kids planted the first seeds of the year for our 2019 CSA program...and we already have tiny broccoli shoots starting to grow! We are now taking subscription orders. Pick up will be Thursdays, weekly or bi-weekly, over a period of 18 weeks. We will provide a variety of produce from early June to mid-October. Pay by April 30th to get the EARLY BIRD Price of $325, which equals $18.05 per week. After April 30th, the cost is $360 for a weekly share, which equals $20 per week. Or, do a bi-weekly share from mid-June to mid-October for $200, which equals $22.22 per week. Refer a friend who purchases a subscription, get $20 back! Limited number of shares, deadline May 27th.

GG Restaurant Fundraisers

Some of our area restaurants have programs that allow you to dine in and earn money for non-profit organizations. We have an event at BJ's on March 27 from 5-10pm and Chipotle on April 28 from 4-8pm. Grab a flyer (or several) from our GG table, share with your friends, and eat dinner out for a great cause and an easy way to help Goodness Grows earn money for our programs. Every dollar counts!

OUTREACH and MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

Common Ground & Second Harvest Food Bank

This month, the Food Bank kicked off their annual Harvest for Hunger campaign. Harvest for Hunger is a month-long food and funds drive that runs through April 7. Donations are typically down this time of year and the funds raised and food collected help stock the shelves of the Food Bank during the summer months when children are home from school. Common Ground wants to help this important cause, so we are hosting a Food & Funds Drive from Sunday, March 3 through Sunday, April 7. We will have a drop-off area for non-perishable food items and monetary donations in the Great Room on one half of our Library table. (Thanks to the Youth Group for their festive decorations. Great job!) Every donation will help folks in our valley!

Coat & Clothing Drive

Ongoing Outreach/Mission Opportunity
Drop items off in the collection barrel or take them up to the Green Room, anytime throughout the year! Let your friends and family know that we accept donations year-round.

~~

For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.

.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.

Matthew 25: 35-36, 40
