Ten new SaS students selected

This school year ten students, all girls this time, have been selected by Java Village to receive support through its Sponsor a Student programme. With this support the students can attend the SMP (junior high school) which is not in the village. Attending the SMP involves all kinds of additional costs (as costs for school books, uniforms, transportation) which are hard to bear by the poor families in the village.

SaS is made possible by our generous sponsors who donate €12,50 per month or €150 per year to make it possible for students to continue their education after completing primary school. New sponsors are very welcome! Please go to our website for further details. Click here

Riana a SaS student from 2009-2012, became a bachelor in business administration in September 2019. He graduated at the Mohammadiyah University (UMMI) in Sukabumi. After completing SMP with support of SaS, Riana completed SMA (senior high school) and now the University which he could attend thanks to a scholarship. He was able to cover the costs of his additional education with great resourcefulness, combining his study with all kind of odd jobs. That wasn't easy for him, but he succeeded. Riana is also one of the initiators of the learning centre in the village.

Of course Riana had to celebrate his graduation 'out of town', in one of the tea gardens surrounding the village. Riana now has a teaching job at a high school in Sukabumi. His wish is to complete his business education at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Let's hope his wish will come true.

The Maria Peters School Grant

The Maria Peters School Grant has recently been founded to make it possible for selected SaS students to continue their education after completing SMP (junior high school) with very good results. The scholarship has been made possible by the Peters Family in commemoration of Maria Peters, who was among the first supporters of Java Village, and very sadly passed away in 2016. Java Village is very honoured by this initiative. We will publish more extensive information on our website about this fund and how it can be supported. We will also share more about this very special initiative in a coming Newsletter.
