It’s Your Waterfront! Help keep it clean and beautiful!
Noon to 3pm
Join Green Shores NYC and the Astoria Park Alliance in cleaning the East River Shoreline in Astoria Park.
Meet just south of the War Memorial on Shore Blvd
(Between Ditmars Blvd and Astoria Park South)
All are welcome!
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants 14 and older are permitted to clean the shoreline. All others will participate in cleaning Shore Blvd and other parts of Astoria Park.
Volunteers are urged to wear old clothes (long pants-no shorts) and sturdy shoes or boots (sandals are not allowed).
The Shoreline Cleanup is RAIN or SHINE but will be canceled in the event of thunderstorms.
This event is made possible with the support of Partnerships for Parks and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation

These are informal paddles where walk-up participants can join a trained NBBC guide for a short trip out on the water.
This may be in our big canoes, regular tandem canoes or sit on top kayaks depending on the conditions that day.
Public paddle days are also a great chance to see all the ins and outs of the boatyard and enjoy some food and drink on a summer afternoon.
All paddles launch from our boatyard, unless otherwise noted.

A few major changes in her life later, she became a dedicated yoga practitioner in 2005, and in July 2007 Sigrid received her certification in the Barkan method of hot yoga. She completed her level ii/iii advanced training in October 2007, and is certified with the yoga alliance.

CHANCE ECOLOGIES

Amplifier Inc. and Radiator Gallery present Chance Ecologies. Chance Ecologies is a framework for artistic gestures and research projects exploring the un-designed landscapes and wilderness found in abandoned spaces, post-industrial sites, and landfills. The main trajectories of the project are to create research and discourse around the value of wild spaces in the urban environment; to document, learn from, and commemorate the naturally occurring ecosystems that are being lost to development; and to articulate contemporary readings of and new forms of relating to (urban) wilderness.
Dock Street Dig – An Archaeological Survey by Matthias Neumann with Scott Schwartz

The Dock Street Dig is an archaeological survey and excavation along the former site of Dock Street with artist/architect Matthias Neumann and archaeologist Scott Schwartz. Dock Street is an evanescent monument to the American idea as manifest in its built environment. Mapped out in Dripp’s map of 1853 as part of the Long Island City.
Impossible Shoreline Walk #2 by Edmund Mooney
3pm - 3:45pm
This walk with artist Edmund Mooney will trace the ancient shoreline of Hunter’s Point as closely as possible, accompanied by soundscape compositions of the current post-industrial landfilled shoreline, which is soon to be erased once again. Hunter’s Point was once a 3 block by 4 block hilltop surrounded by one of the largest salt marshes.
Aerial Kite Photography Workshop with Laura Chipley
4pm - 5pm
Launching a camera on a kite is a low-cost, DIY method for creating grassroots maps and documenting environmental and humanitarian issues from above. In this hands-on workshop, artist Laura Chipley will lead participants in using kite mapping methods developed by the Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science to capture aerial images of the landscape of Hunter’s Point.
Stolon/Station by Dylan Gauthier
4pm - 8pm
Stolon/Station WFRG-FM is a low-frequency radio station transmitting from inside Hunter’s Point South. On Sunday, August 30, the station will broadcast a program consisting of field recordings taken inside the wilderness zone and sound works and readings by artists, ecologists, urban explorers, poets, and other Chance Ecologies contributors. Listeners – bird, plant, rock or human.

Motor City Revue was formed to offer music lovers an authentic tribute to the artists and songs that defined a generation. Motor City Revue will have you dancing along to the songs immortalized by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Supremes and countless others.
Early Bird and Night Owl Lap Swim Sites
Begins July 6 – August 28, Monday through Friday
Early Bird: 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.
Night Owl: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (July) and 8:15 p.m. (August)
The annual outdoor adult lap swim program gives fitness-minded adults the chance to take to the water without interruption from other swimmers. Participants who swim 25 miles or more over the summer will receive a free t-shirt and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female distance swimmers at each pool program.
Registration is REQUIRED.
All swimmers must have a card to gain admission to the program. There is no charge to register.
Queens Library & Friends of Queens Library at Hunters Point Present "The Solar Powered Library" All Summer in Gantry Plaza State Park!
Saturdays from 8:30am to 5:30pm
Queens Library and the Friends of Hunters Point Library are pleased to announce a special series of library services coming to the Gantries all summer long. All activities are free.
Beginning May 31st and continuing on Saturdays, The Mobile Library will be parked each Saturday at Gantry State Park, Vernon Boulevard at 48th Avenue, from 8:30 – 5:30 to offer books and materials for all ages for loan as well as digital downloads onsite and special library offerings.
The Mobile Library will be on site, rain or shine, except July 5.

Located inside the Socrates Sculpture Park, this market is at the center of a favorite destination for neighboring communities. Free cooking demonstrations are held weekly featuring seasonal items from the market and family friendly activities take place throughout the season.

Yoga classes are free and designed for all experience levels. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and, for yoga, bring a mat or a towel.
Kripalu Yoga is a system of Hatha Yoga that integrates body postures, breathing techniques, relaxation, and meditation. Taught by Monique Schubert and Yojaida Estrella, participants are encouraged to integrate their yoga practices with this very special waterfront environment of nature and art.
