Sunday's Service - October 25, 2020 | Sermon Series ~ Shelter in Grace The featured Scripture is: Job 9:1-8 for Mike's message: Shelter in Grace Part 4: How Do I Know I'm Sheltering in Grace? 2020 has been a prolonged season of suffering and, in times of prolonged suffering, most of us have unresolved questions. As Job’s losses turned into prolonged suffering, he too struggled with deep issues and asked a question many in suffering end up asking - Job 9:1 (NKJV) But how can a man be righteous before God? In part 4 of our series "Shelter in Grace" we will discover how we can know we're sheltering in God's grace. THANKS to everyone who helped to make the Giveaway such a wonderful outreach to the community! On Saturday, we had more than 140 people walk through the doors...and that doesn't even include the 25 volunteers that were keeping things running smoothly. (We didn't have time to get pictures of all our volunteers, but we sure do appreciate each and every one!!!) We also had a bunch of additional visitors stop by this week to find items for themselves and for others. Thanks to our friends at Midway Mennonite for helping to spread the word, bringing in more folks on Monday and Tuesday! We had absolutely no idea what to expect during this COVID-19 pandemic, but we feel blessed to have provided some assistance and joy to this amount of people! The coats and warm weather gear will be going to help homeless people in our area through the Youngstown Blue Coats and then the St. Vincent de Paul Society will pick up everything else next week, so all leftover items will be put to good use! Finally, thanks to everyone who was able to join in and help with the clean up! It is true that many hands make light work. | Stewardship Update We would like to thank everyone who has been sending their offering through the mail or dropping it off at church. Grab your kid(s) and spend 25 minutes together singing, dancing, laughing, and learning! Have a great week, Collide Kids! | Kids in 5th-12th Grade ~ Sunday, 6-7pm Well, we can call this the year "the year without a corn maze!" We are not happy about making this decision, but the threat of rain is too high and we don't want to spend another weekend fretting over the go vs. cancel decision. So, we will meet like normal this week, from 6-7pm. We will be getting ready for our Christmas project, decorating our "Giving Tree" for the food bank. Big thanks to our Youth who came out and helped at the Giveaway! You guys are greatly appreciated! Parents, we have a YG permission waiver we need you to fill out next time you're here. | Youth Group Christmas Project 2020 With the pandemic and the quarantine resulting in job losses and economic hardship for many, food insecurity issues have increased in our valley and across the country. As a way to reach out and help our community this holiday season, the Youth have decided to collect donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. The collection will run from November 1 through December 6. Our Christmas giving tree will be set up this Sunday evening, with "ornaments" for you to take with you as shopping reminders. Whether you choose to make a monetary donation or donate non-perishable food items, your giving will help Second Harvest distribute daily to 160 hunger-relief organizations and programs located throughout our tri-county area! We hope to help the food bank spread a little joy and feed hungry people, for Christmas and beyond! | Prayer For whom are you praying today? How can we pray for you? Whenever you have a prayer request, please don't hesitate to send it in! We are here to pray with and for you. Please take a minute to send in your prayer needs by early Monday mornings for inclusion in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week! | Encouragement Thank you to Darla Smith for writing and Marcia Kreps for sharing Darla's uplifting words with us. "God is certainly good to each of us! His mercies are new every morning. I am truly thankful for that. We could all learn to show mercy and grace every day. Just like our heavenly father showers us with." "My word for this week is “HIGHER”. Who is ready to go “higher” in Him? That is my desire, to go “higher” to where God wants me. In the bible there was a lot of examples of people going “higher”. Ezekiel went “higher” and experienced the Glory of the Lord. Zacchaeus went “higher” because he was determined to see Jesus. Moses went “higher” to get instruction from God. Moses went “higher” and was obedient to God. Jesus went “higher” to pray, to teach and most importantly to show us how to LOVE……like He did. When we go “higher” in Him, there will be bumps along the way. The enemy wants to keep us from climbing “higher”. Let us stay strong – stay determined – stay focused – stay in the Word – stay in prayer – Let the Holy Spirit guide us. Even though we cannot see the whole picture, God is right there behind the scenes, drawing us closer to Him. Come on – let us go “higher” in Him!" Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. ~ Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV) | A Note of Thanks From the Shannons Dear church friends, Our family would like to express our heartfelt love and appreciation to all of you who have surrounded us with your care and prayers during our time of need. It has been a time of learning and growing and depending on our Lord and His church as we were caring for Pat's parents and their many medical and emotional needs. We thank you for your lantern & flowers at the funeral, food at the house, cards, presence, and prayers. You have certainly been a blessing to us and to our extended family as well.
