Volunteers make things HAPPEN!

HBL is Hosting 2 Cleanups this October!

October 18th (WED): Join HBL, Patagonia, & City’s Dept. Of Facility Maintenance to help the bicycle community have a smoother commute on Ward by cleaning debris off the Ward bike lane! We’ll be meeting at Patagonia (535 Ward Ave., Honolulu) and cleaning the bike lane from 5pm-7:30pm! Click here to sign up for the 10/18 Ward Ave. cleanup!

October 28th (SAT): HBL and other local organizations have adopted sections of the bike path with the support of the City’s Storm Water Quality Division. Lend a hand with bike lane maintenance!

Bike Lane Menehune!

HBL is working with the City's Dept. of Facility Maintenance to lend a hand with protected bike lane maintenance. This ain't just sweeping to make it look pretty though– we're looking for volunteers interested in forming a Maintenance Menehune crew that meets on a more regular basis (ideally monthly) to do some higher-level maintenance like replace bollards & other upkeep.
Since this is a bit more hands-on than our normal bike lane cleanups and will involve use of power & hand tools, there will be a training session for those who want to be involved on Saturday, Oct 7th at 7am (meets in Honolulu). Email Travis at Travis@HBL.org & you'll be provided additional details.

Bikes for Maui

After the devastating fires on Maui, there have been efforts to get bicycles into the hands of those impacted. We are working with our local chapter, Maui Bicycling League, to support efforts to get electric bicycles and other bikes into the hands of those who need transportation. We are also supporting Krank Cycles efforts to build and distribute hundreds of bikes, especially to the youth. We’re also working with local bike shops to take in donated used bikes and ship them over to Maui. Donations, both bicycles and financial, are welcomed. Learn more on our website here.

National Walk & Roll to School Month

While October 4th is this year’s National Walk & Roll to School Day, you can plan an event on any day that works for you! Hosting a Walk & Roll to School day is a fun way to encourage physical activity and environmentally friendly modes of transportation in your community. Even a simple event can have a positive impact.
The benefits of walking and rolling to school include less traffic congestion, safer streets, and a stronger sense of community. Starting the day with physical activity also helps students build life-long healthy habits. Click here to learn more!

Last Chance for the Biki-Curious!

If you already have your own bicycle, you may think that Honolulu’s bike sharing system isn’t for you. But Biki is for everyone! Want to leave your bike (plus that weighty bike lock!) at home for security, maintenance, storage, or other reasons? Use Biki & ride unencumbered without worrying if your parked bike will still be there when you return. We find Biki is great for going multi-modal– you can use Biki for one-way trips in conjunction with TheBus, carpooling with friends, or just to give your feet a rest from walking.

Find out more about how you can get the most from Honolulu’s bike share system at our final free Biki Basics workshop at Kaka‘ako Waterfront Park on October 26 (Thu). Through Bikeshare Hawaii’s new Everybody Rides all eligible registrants will get access to unlimited 30-minute Biki rides at the reduced rate ( $10 per month) after workshop completion.

Registration closes 10/25/23, 4pm. Sign up today to secure your spot!
