The Last South Carolina Duel | Lunch and Learn at the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum

Friday October 30th, 2015

Learn about the last duel fought in the state as Rusty DePass speaks during the October edition of the museum’s “Lunch and Learn” series. Rusty DePass is the former chairman of the SC Election Committee and a former head of the Richland County Republican Party, whose ancestor William Lambert DePass was a party to the infamous Cash – Shannon duel.

In 1880, Col. Ellerbe Cash of Cheraw and Col. William M. Shannon of Camden met midway between their homes — near the Darlington County line — and fought the last duel in South Carolina. The tragic tale of their conflict resonated across the country, and sounded a death knell for dueling in America. Come enjoy Rusty’s often humorous accounting of this dubious high-water mark in South Carolina history. The lecture will last for one hour and is free to attend. You are invited to bring your lunch to enjoy while listening. Check Here For More Info

Each program will last around a half hour. These tours are included in regular museum admission. Stories will be suitable for history buffs of all ages, however parental discretion is advised as the gallery will be dark and actors in costume. Check Here For More Info
