1. 2021 Season Format - All Regular Season Race Registration Open

The 2021 season includes:

▪ 1 Individual Time Trial (ITT)
▪ 2 cross-country races
▪ State Championships - must qualify

Regions and teams are assigned a specific location and race day for the ITT and XC races. Riders and teams cannot change their race assignments.

Be sure to know which region and which day your race is scheduled.

Registration is OPEN for all Regular Season Races.

North Conference – Team Region Assignments

Race #1 Yampa Region ITT: August 28-29, Frisco Bay Invitational (Frisco)
Saturday - Sunday Yampa Team List

Race #1 Platte Region ITT: September 11-12, Showdown in the Boat (Steamboat Springs)
Saturday - Sunday Platte Team List

South Conference – Team Region Assignments

Race #1 Crystal Region ITT: August 28-29, Cloud City Challenge (Leadville)
Saturday - Sunday Crystal Team List

Race #1 Piedra Region September 11-12, Chalk Creek Stampede (Nathrop)
Saturday - Sunday Piedra Team List

ITT Format

▪ Riders will be assigned a start time.
▪ Riders will start in groups of 4.
▪ Riders will go off in 1-minute intervals.
▪ Riders will be timed and scored on a 2-lap race.

If a rider is late to their assigned start time, a 15-second time penalty will be applied.

Category Placement Table & Individual Time Trial (ITT) Scoring
The 2021 Category Placement Table (CPT)is based on the 2020 rider category and/or 2021 grade. The category placement table directs each rider to the category they should register for in 2021.

Each rider will begin the season with an opportunity to complete an ITT. The 2021 Colorado League Category Placement Criteria will be used to place riders in their respective category according to their ITT results.

Riders will have an opportunity to petition to change their category immediately AFTER the ITT and before Race #2 XC. Once riders are categorized and ranked applicable points will be applied for team scoring.

Timeline for Category Placement Petitions Post Individual Time Trial (ITT)
1. Preliminary Individual Rank, Time, and Category Placements ONLY will be posted by 5:00 PM the Monday following the ITT.
2. Category Placement Exception Petitions must be submitted by 5:00 PM the Thursday following the ITT.
3. Category Placement Petitions will be reviewed by the Rules Committee and either accepted or rejected by 5:00 PM the following Monday.
4. Final Individual Rank, Points, and Team Scoring will be published by 5:00 PM the following Wednesday.

Cross-Country (XC) Race Format

The current proposed format for the XC race format will include the following laps:

▪ Freshmen - Sophomore, boys and girls - 2 laps
▪ Junior Varsity girls - 2 laps
▪ Junior Varsity boys and Varsity girls - 3 laps
▪ Varsity boys - 4 laps
Freshmen - Sophomore, boys and girls - 2 laps
Junior Varsity girls - 2 laps
Junior Varsity boys and Varsity girls - 3 laps
Varsity boys - 4 laps

North Conference Regions: Platte and Yampa

Race #2: September 25-26, Haymaker Classic (Eagle) - Tattoo Contest
Race #3: October 9-10, Granby Ranch Round-Up (Granby) - Noisemaker Contest

South Conference Regions: Crystal and Piedra

Race #2: September 25-26, Snowmassive Chase (Snowmass) - Tattoo Contest
Race #3: October 9-10, Haymaker Classic (Eagle) - Noisemaker Contest

State Championships
Race #5: October 23-24, Durango Mesa Pursuit (Durango) - Disco Contest

The season series may change based on health department requirements and the evolving COVID situation.

Be prepared to adjust as needed to comply with any host community restrictions.

2. Legacy Riders & Personalized Number Plates - Deadline August 2nd

We are proud of those “Legacy Riders” who race all 4 years of high school. These riders will be recognized with a special gold race plate and will receive a Legacy Belt Buckle at the end of the season.

Riders must have participated in at least one (1) 2020 Singletrack
Solidarity Challenge valid till 2023. Participation in another high school interscholastic racing program prior to the Colorado League is included in this criteria.

Personalized Number Plates

To receive a personalized number or Coach plate, all riders and coaches must complete their membership registration by July 30th.

3. Race Weekend Volunteers - Sign Up

Race weekends are inspiring, fun, and rewarding! Teams will experience firsthand the energetic buzz of the Colorado League community of coaches, teams, and families while supporting student-athletes.

Teams are assigned to “host” a race weekend. We ask teams to provide at least 1 volunteer per 4 athletes for each race weekend and 2 volunteers per 4 athletes for your “host” race.

4. Time to Be Familiar with the Rules

Are you ready for a race weekend? Do you know how teams are scored? What is the staging process? Do you have to wear a helmet? Are there time penalties for receiving mechanical assistance or changing bikes?

Answers to all these questions can be found in the rulebook. It is linked in every race flyer and on the website.

▪ Newsletters: Coach and Community Newsletters are sent out the last week of every month. Please read as they contain a lot of important information and details about the upcoming season.

7. Scholarship Opportunities

We are committed to making our program accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Whether a coach, team or individual rider, scholarships are provided to offset expenses related to participation in Colorado League activities. There is even a collegiate scholarship for 2020 graduating seniors, deadline June 1.
