Sunday's Service - October 4, 2020

Due to this Sunday's weather forecast, Worship will be indoors.

The featured Scripture comes from: 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV)
for Mike's sermon: Shelter in Grace Part 1: "A Strong Shelter."

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

"Since it seems that the present pandemic the world is facing will require more time to sort out and more patience on our part, I want to begin a new series called "Shelter in Grace." Even the strongest, bravest, and most spiritual among us need God’s sheltering presence in the days ahead. I am praying that as life’s circumstances close in around us, God’s grace will open up for us new ways to grow and new joys to experience. Let’s consider someone in Scripture who discovered the need for a strong shelter in crisis: Job." ~ Pastor Mike

CG NEWS & EVENTS

October is National Pastor Appreciation Month Did You Know...

Pastor Appreciation Day began with the establishment of Clergy Appreciation Month. In 1 Timothy 5:17, Paul began the concept of clergy appreciation when he stated that the elders of the church are worthy of double honor. He reiterated this idea in
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 when he stated that those who work hard among you should be held in the highest regard for their work. In 1992, this idea became Clergy Appreciation Month, with a mission of uplifting and encouraging pastors, missionaries and religious workers. Eventually, Pastor Appreciation Day (always the second Sunday in October) would form out of this month. Pastor Appreciation Month is the perfect reminder to all of us that pastors are human and, therefore, they need and appreciate our encouragement! This article - What Your Pastor Won’t Tell You (But Wishes You Knew) About Pastor Appreciation Month - gives plenty of food for thought about the importance of this special month and about saying thanks to those who do the important work of providing spiritual leadership. Thanks from all of us, Pastor Mike!

Children's Ministry

Collide Kids Wednesday
Wisdom is knowing and choosing God’s way. Getting wisdom is like a journey that lasts your whole life - and the first step is choosing to follow Jesus as your leader and number one friend. Watch and see how you can know Him in your life and help you become wise!

James 1:5: "If any of you need wisdom, ask God for it. He will give it to you..."

Join Crew Leader Danielle, and spend 25 minutes together singing, dancing, laughing, and learning! We would love for you to also have your child(ren) memorize this week's scripture verse and motions and upload a video of them in the comment section under the video on the CLC Facebook page! Have a great week, Collide Kids!

Youth Group 2020-2021 ~ Sundays 6-7pm

Last Sunday, we talked about filling our "blank space" with God and read about Jacob in the book of Genesis. We started sorting clothes, as Giveaway day is fast approaching. We also had a few minutes for one quick round of "the game!" This Sunday, we will dive back into God's Word and do some additional tasks to prepare for October 17.

Youth Group is open to kids in 5th-12th grade.

Parents, we have a YG permission waiver we need you to fill out next time you're here.

Youth Group Christmas Project 2020

This year the youth felt that our Christmas project should reflect the current situation in our country. With the pandemic and the quarantine resulting in job losses and economic hardship for many, food insecurity issues have increased in our valley and across the country. As a way to reach out and help our community, we have decided to collect donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. After the Coat & Clothing Giveaway, we will put up our collection area for non-perishable food items as well monetary donations. Please prayerfully consider how you might help.

Prayer

For whom are you praying today?
How can we pray for you?

Whenever you have a prayer request, please don't hesitate to send it in! We are here to pray with and for you. Please take a minute to send in your prayer needs by early Monday mornings for inclusion in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week!

Encouragement

Thank you to Darla Smith for writing and Marcia Kreps for sharing Darla's uplifting words with us.

"I pray your week has been blessed. Oh, I love the fall! Such colors God paints for us. Behold God's beauty set before us! Take some time outside to enjoy and soak it in."

"My Word that God gave me this week is "JOURNEY." How is your JOURNEY going? We are all in a different place in our JOURNEY. God wants to remind us...…There is someone that has been through the same JOURNEY as us. Someone maybe that has been sick and healed. Someone that has lost someone very near and dear to their heart (my hand is up). Someone that has a child that may not be possibly doing what we think they should be doing (hand again). Maybe someone that is sick and still waiting on their healing to manifest (I am raising my hand). Possibly someone that has been through planning a wedding - or possibly a divorce? Going through weight gain/loss issues (hands up). So many JOURNEYS that we can all relate to. So many opportunities to reach out to someone and encourage. Let's keep our hearts in tune with the Holy Spirit to who/when/where we are needed to help on another's JOURNEY."

"I pray you are blessed each week with our Words that God is speaking to us."

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

News of the Week

Now that CSA season is over, our crew started the process of getting ready for the winter by clearing out beds and fields. We are hoping for continued nice weather as we have plenty more outside work to accomplish. We also spent time this week making jam, harvesting for the food pantry in Washingtonville, decorating the Great Room and outside for autumn, and more.

Our other exciting news this week was the adoption of our two toads by our new friend, Ray! Ray already takes care of his toad, Henry, and he (and his family) offered a permanent home to our toads. We are looking forward to some progress reports on how our little amphibian friends are settling into their new family. Thanks, Ray, for caring about all of God's creatures!!
