Great British care success

We are celebrating across the whole of Springhill Care Group this week as we’ve had good news from all our homes and at Springhill HQ.

The Great British Care Awards is one of the industry’s leading award ceremonies, held as a series of regional events throughout England as a celebration of excellence. Winners of the regional awards go on to a national final and we are proud to announce that Affinity Supporting People staff member Sara Moss is through to the final of the Home Care Worker Award, and a team of staff from one of our Affinity services, have been shortlisted as a finalist in the Care Team Award.

Jean Ali from Birch Green Care Home, Skelmersdale has been chosen as a finalist for The Good Nurse Award, and Robin Eddleston of Springhill Care Home, Accrington for the Dementia Carer Award.

At Riversway Nursing Home in Bristol, as part of the South West awards, Jan Wilkins has been shortlisted for the Care Home Registered Manager award; Terri Fisher and Matthew Reed for the Care Home Nutrition and Hydration award, and Rachel Smith for the Care Home Activity Organiser Award.

And we’ve now heard the great news that Ken and Donna have been shortlisted for Springhill Care as the Care Employer Award as part of the North West heats.

Donna Briggs said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to be recognised for even one award, so to see our staff shortlisted in all these categories is brilliant. We wish them all the best of luck.”

The South West awards take place on October 17 in Bristol, and the North West awards on November 1 in Manchester.

Inspiring art at Birch Green

Our residents here at Birch Green have been exercising their creativity recently with the first of a planned series of art classes.

Delivered by respected local artist Roy Munday, the class was great fun and we’re all looking forward to seeing the residents developing their painting skills as Roy visits once a month.

Reg the tambourine man

Talented guitarist and singer Rob paid a visit to Riversway Nursing Home recently and was joined by our very own Reg on tambourine.

Rob made sure our residents had fun, singing along, especially Reg who took his place at the front with the entertainer (pictured) and sang along, accompanying Rob on the tambourine.

The event was a great success and everyone left with a smile on their face.
