Year 5

In Year 3, 84% of students are in the Exceeding and Strong standards and in Year 5, 82% of students are either Exceeding or Strong. Teachers are currently working with Renee who is our coach from The Mathematics Association of Victoria (MAV) and Ms Gould will share more on this exciting initiative.

Let’s talk about Maths!

As part of our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP), we have a team of teachers working with a MAV (Mathematics Association of Victoria) consultant to create a consistent maths instructional model. It is referred to as the ‘Launch, Explore, Summarise’ model. It is evidence based and recommended by the Department of Education as the best practice model.

The model has a problem solving focus and encourages students to apply their mathematical understandings to real life authentic problem situations. We give our students the option to use enablers and extenders to ensure they can either access the task with support or extend their thinking with an extra challenge.

Here is an example of a problem that students in Grade 1/2 were presented with:

You have 20 Lego blocks. How many towers can you make AND
how many blocks in each tower?

We look forward to continuing to embed this instructional model and working with MAV into 2024.

If you have lost your password, Miss Pritchard can help you - just let her know and she'll reprint it for you.

Fathers Day Breakfast

The Parents Association are proud to celebrate Fathers Day again this year with a special breakfast on Friday 1st September. We invite all MVPS children to bring their father (or other special person) along to celebrate with us. This event is significantly subsidised by the PA however we do ask for a small contribution of $5 per adult to put towards costs of food and fun activities on the morning. Tickets can be purchased here.
