The scriptures reveal that man has a problem about which he can do nothing. Paul says in Rom. 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Sin is a great problem, but it leads to an even greater one. Paul continues in Rom. 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death.” When man sins, he separates himself from God (cf. Isa. 59:12), and if he dies physically in such a condition he will be separated from God for eternity.

But God, who is full of love and mercy, made it possible that men would not have to die for their sins, to the will of God and our Father. So God provided someone to die in our place for our sins.

Yet Jesus Christ did more than die for our sins; he freed us from all the problems that sin brings between man and God. The scriptures show us how this was accomplished.

“Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood” (Rev. 1:5b). Through his blood Christ cleansed us from the defilements of sin.

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Heb. 9:14). Christ drove the defilements of sin from mankind.

“…and having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself” (Col. 1:20). Christ settled the dispute that sinners placed between themselves and God.

“…because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth” (2 Thess. 2:13). Christ set man apart from the world of sin to become useful in holy purposes for God.

“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him” (Rom. 5:9). Christ’s sacrifice removed all blame for sin from those who obey him.

“…and our Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity” (Tit. 2:13-14). He purchased ownership of mankind from Satan and gave it back to God.

“Who gave himself a ransom for all” (1 Tim. 2:6). Christ paid the price God set upon sin.

“…and he is the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 2:2). Christ’s death appeased God’s anger over man’s sins.

If man knew he had a disease and there was only one cure for it, surely he would take the cure to save his life. Man does have a sin problem, and there is only one cure for it, and that is Jesus Christ. Logically, man should turn to Christ in simple obedience to the new covenant and be saved from sin.
