In 1949, the Church of the Nazarene was experiencing a crunch in mission funding. At a General Missions Council meeting, Elizabeth Vennum was asked to dream up an idea that could raise funding for land purchases and building construction needs in Nazarene mission areas. As she rode the train home from that meeting in Kansas City, the Lord gave her the idea for the Alabaster Box offering. Now more than 70 years later, we're still bringing an offering that facilitates the purchase of land, construction of churches, schools, medical facilities, and homes for missionaries and national workers.
