Dear Team NICA -

It’s hard to believe we are nearing the end of another season of fun NICA events - as this has been a truly exciting Fall season with the successful launch of five new leagues and student-athlete participation growing to our biggest year ever with over 26,800 student-athletes participating in events across both our Fall and Spring Leagues. We are pleased to announce we have renewed our long-standing partnership with PeopleForBikes to continue our work to increase access to cycling for all kids and foster the integration of trails and cycling into our local communities.

This month we honor and recognize the Utah League and the Minnesota Cycling Association as they celebrate their 10th seasons. Congratulations and and thank you to each league, League Directors Dallen Atack and Josh Kleve and the Utah and Minnesota communities for 10 years of dedication and hard work to getting #MoreKidsOnBikes!

In celebration of the entire organization VeloNews created a 25 page “NICA guide” as part of their Olympic edition this past summer. If you have not seen it as yet - you can see the digital version HERE!

The magazine cover shows two former NICA athletes, Kate Courtney and Haley Batten in their Team USA kit ready for the summer Olympics. Articles inside include celebrations of the beginnings to get #MoreKidsonBikes, the Utah League’s Elevate program, Sam Schultz Montana NICA League Director and former Olympian, our Diversity, Equity and inclusion efforts, Kate Courtney’s Sparkle on Scholarship, a look at our brand new Kansas NICA league and so much more!

Enjoy the read and share this with your friends!

Best Regards,
Steve

BIEA - NICA Bicycle Technician Scholarship

NICA is excited to partner with the Bicycle Industry Employers Association (BIEA) and announce the BIEA NICA Bicycle Technician Scholarship. This scholarship will recognize and support two graduating NICA student-athletes from the Class of 2022 who plan to pursue a professional career in the bicycle industry. Through this scholarship, recipients will receive financial assistance and the opportunity to attend BIEA-accredited programs at either the Minneapolis Community Technical College or the Northwest Arkansas Community College. Both schools offer programs that will prepare students for immediate employment in technical positions in the bicycle industry. Application material will be available starting November 1st on NICA's scholarship page HERE.

Thanks for a Great Season!

As the fall season begins to wind down, we want to congratulate and thank all of our Fall League NICA GRiT Coordinators, GRiT Ambassadors and coaches for an amazing season. They organized and led GRiT rides, bike maintenance clinics, Adventure days, Moms on Bikes clinics, jewelry making, cowbell painting and other NICA GRiT tent activities. And, most importantly, they supported our female athletes throughout the season, helping them to achieve their goals, whether that was building skills and having fun or reaching the podium. Thank you for all that you do to support our female student athletes and get #MoreGirlsOnBikes!! We could not do this without you!

CORRECTION: Last month we shared 4 photos that were mistakenly labeled as designs by student-athletes, when they were actually designs by sculptor Andy Goldsworthy. These photos were intended to be shared as inspiration for student-athletes to create their own designs and we apologize for any confusion. The photo here is artwork created by our West Virginia female student athletes, as inspired by Mr. Goldsworthy.

Worldwide Cyclery Staff in Pennsylvania putting in some Miles for NICA!

Worldwide Cyclery Puts in the Miles for NICA

One of the main “Why’s” at Worldwide Cyclery is supporting people having fun on bikes. One of their favorite ways that we do that is their Miles for NICA Program, where Worldwide Cyclery donates money to NICA for each mile ridden by a staff member, which directly impacts getting #MoreKidsOnBikes. During Q3 of 2021, Worldwide Cyclery staff members rode 7,434 miles which resulted in $2,158 in donations to NICA and brought their total contributions for 2021 to $10,766!
