Welcome, my writing and reading friends, to my June newsletter. I have spent the last few weeks working feverishly on my new book, and I will be doing exactly the same this month. I'm on course to have a first draft together by mid July, and I'm getting very excited about that - although there's still a long way to go. When I reach the finish line you'll be the first to know.

Welcome Jenny Valentish

This month I'm privileged to have the wonderful Jenny Valentish, former music editor and now fiction writer extraordinaire, chatting with me on my blog. Her novel Cherry Bomb is hot off the press and heading onto the shelves next month, and it's an original, hilarious and incisive look at celebrity culture and the music industry. I was lucky enough to see an early draft, and I was laughing out loud at points and completely immersed in the life of Nina Doll as she goes from teen singer to fully fledged music star.
Read my interview with Jenny here, and leave a comment for your chance to win a copy of Cherry Bomb. This giveaway ends at midnight on 30 June and the winner will be announced the next day.

Last month's winners

Last month’s giveaway was not one but two Wendy James books! The winner is Jenni Shelton - congratulations, I have no doubt you’ll love them. With many thanks to Wendy and the Penguin publicity team for supporting the giveaway.

I always give away one of my books to new subscribers, and this month's copy of Beneath the Shadows was won by Maja. Next month there's a copy of Come Back to Me up for grabs for newcomers, and I'd love you to forward this newsletter to any book-loving friends who would enjoy my novels.

Secrets and Lies reaches the shops

Watch out for this chunky little collection in the shops this month - three books in one for the suspense lover! There's Beyond Fear by Jaye Ford, I Came to Say Goodbye by Caroline Overington, and my very own Come Back to Me rounds off the trio. Perfect for those dark, cold and rainy evenings!

Vale Maya Angelou

I was very sad to hear that Maya Angelou passed away a few days ago, as she has been one of my greatest inspirations. I wrote part of my dissertation on I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings back in 1998, and ever since then I have looked for her work.

Maya Angelou achieved so much despite the hardships she suffered. Her writing always moved me because she never shied away from suffering. Her words are raw and honest, and yet suffused with warmth and love. I will miss her.

Next month I will have more news about an event in WA, and I should be a lot closer to finishing my novel. Until then, wishing you a month of great books and plenty of time to read them.
