SA Duathlon 1

Janco Coetzee and Amelia Middleton.

Two athletes from Merensky High School, Janco Coetzee and Amelia Middleton, were recently chosen as team members of the Tshwane Triathlon Association (TTA), formerly known as the Northern Gauteng Triathlon Team.

On 2 July, they will compete in the SA Duathlon, held at the Midmar dam in KwaZulu Natal.

Janco will take part in the Super Sprint (2.5km run, 10km cycling and again a 1.25km run). Amelia will endeavour a 5km run, 20km cycling, ending with another 2.5km run.

Although it is expected that freezing conditions will prevail, these two Plasies will surely burn the track.

On an ice cold Saturday morning, 24 June, the Plasie u.15 rugby team challenged their Ellisras opponents in the Limpopo semi-finals at Frikkie Meyer High School in Thabazimbi.

The odds were definitely against the Plasies, seeing that Ellisras were on the winning streak for the past two years.

At half-time, the score board reflected a 7-0 lead for Ellisras. After an inspiring team talk by the two coaches, Messrs Thomas Joubert and JeCe Swart, the Merensky boys ignited and once again answered the call. In the second half Neil Delport scored a try, while Danie Potgieter added two tries. Andru Miller coverted one goal, to bring the score to 17-10 when the final whistle blew.

This promising team from Plasieland will play against Ben Vorster in the Limpopo finals, scheduled for Saturday, 29 July, at HTS Tom Naudé in Polokwane.

Plasies made of iron

Ironman

Elisma Minnaar, Andri Prinsloo and Anri Burger.

Ms Anri Burger, a Mathematics and Life Sciences teacher at Merensky High School proved that she is a force to be reckoned with, when she completed the Ironman 70.3 in Durban over the weekend of 17 June. Old-Plasie, Elisma Minnaar (class of 2010) also completed this challenge.

This unforgettable race in the heart of the city began with a 1.9km swim in the Bay of Plenty, followed by a fast, undulating 90km bike course that looped around the Blue Lagoon and headed along the M4 highway. The flat, two-loop 21.1km run along the promenade surely provided some spectacular views.

A jubilant Burger completed this gruelling challenge in 6 hours and 34 minutes (stage 1 – 34 minutes, stage 2 – 184 minutes and stage 3 – 161 minutes). Minnaar managed to complete the challenge in an astonishing 5 hours 56 minutes (stage 1 – 36 minutes, stage 2 – 181 minutes, stage 3 – 124 minutes).

Merensky High School congratulates both these ladies on this huge accomplishment.

Plasies gekies vir TV-vasvra

Superskool

DIE SUPERSPAN Casper Jordaan, me.

Daarna is ‘n geïnspireerde video in rekordtyd saamgestel.

Plasieland hou duim vas vir me.
