Old-Fashioned Apple Butter Making a Success!

Thank you for all the participation in this project! From the folks who donated supplies to the volunteers who worked hard the week prior - shopping, washing, peeling, cooking, and more - to the folks who attended on Saturday to assist in the set-up, cooking, canning, and clean-up as well as the chefs who provided yummy foods...every single one of you is appreciated! Thanks to the Carrier/Shannon clan for sharing this awesome tradition with us! We might make this the start of a special annual event! There is now spectacular apple butter for sale here, at $5 per jar, all proceeds to benefit Goodness Grows. Apple butter makes a great gift!

Note ~ When your jar is empty, please return the jar and the ring.
GG can put it to good use next year. Thanks!

Giveaway ~ Part 2!

We were so blessed to receive enough donations that we were able to offer the Giveaway for a second Saturday. We had more than 75 people come through our doors this time! The items that are left will be going to other charity organizations in our valley.

Want more good news? We had our first donation bag dropped off this week for Giveaway 2022!

Once Again, THANK YOU Volunteers!

Poinsettias for Christmas

Yes, October seems like an odd time to be thinking about Christmas flowers, but now is the time to start planning and ordering. Chuck's Greenhouse is expecting their poinsettia supply to be very tight this year, as another major grower has retired. We would be honored to display poinsettias once again here at church in honor or memory of your loved ones during the Christmas season. We will have cards available to display on each pot and you can then take your poinsettia(s) home on Christmas Eve. Plants will be red in gold foil-covered pot. Pot sizes are listed on sign-up sheet on the counter at the front desk. Order deadline is Sunday, November 14. (Payment due by December 12, as we will pick up the order that week. Please make checks payable to CGCC.) Poinsettias will be displayed in the Sanctuary on Sunday, December 19 and on Christmas Eve.

Tryptophan Triple Turkey Drive!

We're working together to provide Thanksgiving Dinner supplies to 35 Families! Men's Catalyst Ministry will host the Drive-Thru Giveaway Saturday, November 20, 11am-1pm.
Please visit our Donation Board to see how to give. Sign up by writing your name on the sheet and taking the adjacent paper strip reminder with you. It's as easy as pumpkin pie!

Needed: 35 turkeys, 35 boxes of mashed potatoes, 35 jars of applesauce,
70 jars of gravy, 70 boxes of stuffing, 70 cans of cranberry sauce, 70 cans of green beans,
and plenty of prayers!
Thank you for blessing these folks this way.

Donations must be dropped off here by Sunday, November 14.

Prayer

For whom are you praying today?
How can we pray for you?

We are here to pray with and for you, anytime! Prayer needs sent by early Monday morning will be included in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week!

Encouragement

Thank you to Marcia Kreps for sharing and Darla Smith for writing these weekly bits of encouragement.

"It is a little wet and rainy this week in the Northeast, but God is still blessing us amid the gray skies and rain. It seems like these weeks have been flying by. Before long, another year under our belts."

"I was struggling with this week's Word. Not what I wanted to say, just the Word itself. So, I chose “TEST.” There are a lot of my friends and family this year that have had a “test” in their lives this year. Don’t panic, it’s only a “test.” In the “test,” their faith may have tried to waver BUT GOD will continue to see them through. When we are put through a “test,” it is where we are pressed down and purified, just like gold in its process. We are put through the fire, but not consumed. We are purified to a beautiful vessel that God can use. When God takes us through a “test,” that will be the opportune time to be able to minister to others in the same boat. We will have a closer relationship with God through our “test.” We don’t need to try and fix our “test” time on our own. When we try to fix it on our own, we tie God’s hands to bless us. Let the Holy Spirit speak to our hearts in our “test.” Let Him minister to our souls during our “test.” We will be so much stronger in our witness and testimony because of our “test.” Stand firm in your faith during your “test.” Someone will be blessed because of your “test." Have a super blessed week!"

These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold - though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. ~ 1 Peter 1:7 (NLT)

Pastor Mike, a genius on the smoker!

News of the Week

Last week's turkey feast with Mike and Stacy was amazing! If you have never had smoked turkey, you need to try it ASAP! Thank you again, Hilemans! We appreciate you both.

We spent Friday processing apples and making applesauce, as we prepped for apple butter day. Our GG crew members were all pretty excited this week to take home their own jars of this special treat. Then, we were back in the kitchen this week as well, launching into our cold weather jams - Cranberry Jalapeno Jungle Jam and Cranberry Orange Juicy Jam. There are many cranberry fans who will be happy to hear that these jams are back on the menu!

This week has been very focused on the final push in the fields and gardens before winter. We have been removing weed barriers and drip lines, doing a final harvest, pulling out plants, and planting cover crops. All this work now will hopefully lead to even healthier planting areas next spring. Thanks go to Mike Ashby for coming out throughout the week to help with this big job!

Soon, we will be working in the warehouse to pack up the leftover items. It has been much less stressful this year, since we aren't rushing to try to return the church building to normal.

Although it's a gloomy, gray day outside, everyone is sunny here at GG. Miss Kelly Shannon wasn't at her new job today, so she came to work at GG, providing Rachel with time to do research and errands. Seeing Kelly come through the door brought smiles all around! Thanks, Kel!

Check out what GG Board President, Kitty Kromer, is up to with her full time job! Article and video available here:

GG is collecting egg shells, egg cartons, plastic grocery bags, and coffee grounds. Please leave cartons and bags at the front desk. Egg shells and coffee grounds can be placed in the new black wastebasket to the left of the pew by the Café. Thank you for the items that have already come in!

Coat & Clothing (& More!) Giveaway...2022

Collecting for 2022 has begun! Please remind your friends and family members that we love all clean, useable donations that could help others!

~~~~~~~
For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.
.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
