Text, tweet, email, call—what do parents want in school communications?

From eSchool News:
"When it comes to school communications, parents today want more information from their children’s teachers and schools, but they also want that information to be timely, targeted, and personalized to their children or their interest areas.

"The latest data from Speak Up Research Project gives insights on school-to-home communications. In “Text, Twitter, Email, Call—What Do Parents Say About School Communications?” Dr. Julie Evans, chief executive officer of Project Tomorrow, shared these insights from parents, educators, and administrators, and discussed takeaways from the research."

STEAM Research from the Front Lines: The Impact of STEAM on Teachers, Students, Administrators and Parents

Join Julie Evans on October 18th at noonET/9amPT as she reveals new Speak Up data with a special focus on STEM and STEAM. How are STEM and STEAM impacting teachers? What do the students think about all of it? And what value do parents place on one of the biggest education pushes happening now: the integration of science, technology, engineering, the arts and math across the curriculum? This one-hour event, hosted by David Nagel, will be packed with data and fresh insights for those looking to promote, support or even just get a handle on STEAM in their own schools.

Designing a Dream School

We are asking students and adults about their vision of a dream school again on Speak Up 2017. Take a look back at the findings from 2016 in this guest blog post, Designing a Dream School, authored by Speak Up Advisory Council member, Dr. Mark Beadle of SevenStar:

"Laptops and Internet access share the top two spots in both the student and the school leaders’ dream schools....

"Some differences between what school leaders would have in a dream school and what students would have should be noted. School leaders ranked digital content, online tutors, tablets, media creation tools, and learning management systems much higher than students in their dream schools. Students ranked mobile apps, online videos, and digital games much higher in their dream school than did school leaders."

The blog post includes a sortable table with findings from administrators and students.

Speak Up Recommendation

ISTE recently posed this question to members: What are your favorite resources to share with parents to explain any aspect of digital learning?

They shared some of the recommendations in October's Empowered Learner magazine.

We were thrilled to see this Speak Up recommendation from Nicole Zumpano, a technology coach in Chicago!
