Makutsi from above

The below footage was filmed between mid December 2014 and mid January 2015, using a Drone & Gopro camera. We will keep on filming whenever the right occasions present themselves, and over the next months and years hopefully entertain you with more stunning video images, both from the air and from the ground.
For now, we hope you enjoy this first version of "Makutsi from above", and share it with your friends.

Cheetah Research Drive

Finally our Cheetah Research Project in the north is running at full steam again!
First we received our new male, Djuma, in February 2014, and released him into the reserve in April 2014. You might remember that he kept us pretty busy with several "break-outs" onto the gravel road (click here for video), but soon he relaxed, and started patrolling and enjoying his new territory.
In September 2014 we then received a beautiful female, Aschanti. After spending some time in the boma, we also released her late December.
We are very happy to finally have both a male and a female cheetah in the Northern Section of Makutsi again, and hopefully they will spoil us with some cubs soon.
Don't forget to plan this exciting and educational excursion for your next trip to Makutsi.

New generator has arrived

Most of you would have read or heard about the electricity problems we are experiencing in South Africa at the moment. Too much demand and not enough supply has forced our electricity provider to occasionally cut supply to parts of the country.
The good news is that we have now received our brand new generator, which is strong enough to supply the whole of Makutsi Main Camp, including all the guest rooms, with electricity. The generator automatically starts when electricity supply is cut, so whatever happens outside of Makutsi, you won't be "left in the dark" whilst staying with us :)

Festive Season 2014/15

It feels like yesterday that we celebrated Christmas and New Year on Makutsi, and we are already in March! It is not funny how time flies...
This festive season we enjoyed another full camp, a mix of clients from all over, and of course wonderful food.
For Christmas we spoilt everyone with a dinner buffet on the 24th of December, and a dessert buffet on the 25th. Might as well enjoy a few different desserts before those dreaded new years resolutions! As a christmas present, every guests received a complimentary game drive, safe to say the guides where kept very busy.
For New Years Eve, we took all 57 guests on a short game drive on the way to Makutsi Tented Camp for some drinks and a beautiful sunset before taking everyone on a short night drive back to Main Camp. After another wonderful dinner, everyone got together at the River Lapa and enjoyed the Makutsi Staff singing and dancing the night away.

Hatari Bushcamp "upgraded"

Hatari Safari & the time spent at Hatari Buschcamp is always a favourite with our guests. Because this little rustic Buschcamp gets used so often, it is never easy to do some maintenance work and improvements. We have finally found the time to do some work, with focus on giving all the wood a fresh coat of oil, as well as extending the roof. This means that now on those very hot days we have more than enough shade to keep cool and relax in the hammocks, and of course also to stay dry when you get surprised by one of those African thunderstorms.

Guest Images

We have been so lucky to receive regular images from guests who have visited us during 2014. Many of these images have been put on our website already, but not everyone has seen them there, so we wanted to make sure you get to enjoy them in this newsletter.
As this newsletter arrives in your Inbox, and we don't want to send out too large emails, we will just showcase a selection of images. Please take your time to have a look at each and every one, we are sure you will enjoy it, and thank you to all of you that have shared your images with us.
