A Message from Rabbi Avraham Arieh Trugman
Dear friends: Outside of Israel we read this week the portion of Behar. In this portion the laws of the sabbatical year and the 50th jubilee year are described. Behar, means in or at the mountain, referring to these laws being given at
Mount Sinai. The word behar equals 207 in gematria, the same as the word ohr, light and also ayn sof, infinite. The light of the infinite One was revealed at Mount Sinai and that light is still accessible through learning Torah, especially the inner dimensions of our mystical tradition. The gematria of the word Shabbat equals 702, the inverse of 207. The Torah was given on Shabbat and therefore the infinite light of God is also accessible on Shabbat. The sabbatical year is called a Shabbat for the land and this also hints that despite Israel's very small geographical size it contains infinite holiness and light. May we all merit to actually feel and perceive the infinite light in the Torah, Shabbat and the Land of Israel.
