Here in Sheffield a container by coincidence just arrived from Indonesia. Amazingly there are some Big Buddhas on it.. that have been on order for over a year. Another container is also on the way, so we are hoping that soon we will have good stock levels. But really it is hard work keeping fast moving stock, in stock when it comes from the other side of the world. We are working on it.
Meanwhile in Bali there is a crisis, Ringo (our man in Bali) is in a flat panic. Seems the landlord of our warehouse has decided to increase our (already over priced) rent tenfold, and wants us to sign up for ten years or move out. So I was due back in China at the end of the month, now I will have to make a detour to Bali to sort this out. This is a classic case of "foreigners-have-bottomless-pockets-you-just-have-to-ask-syndrome" and can be quite annoying.
So.. watch this space for updates on this exciting tropical soap opera.
From the mystical town of Ubud, you take the road out of town past the huge Hanuman statue up the volcano road. Just past the spot made famous by Julia Roberts who stopped to admire a rice terrace view, the road forks and wends it's way along the precarious edge of a plunging ravine. Close to the top, with breathtaking views across the top of the rainforest to the distant volcano, you might come across a small shack that houses a showroom and office, along the ridge slightly is a pile of rough jempinis logs beyond which is a workshop where a group of ladies sit carving. They are artisans working on our orders. And the day I was there it was backscratchers.
