Old-Fashioned Apple Butter Making

THIS Saturday, October 23, 9:30am to ??
Come join in the fun at this special event, a first for Common Ground Church Community, Connecting Life Church, and Goodness Grows! Guided by Sally & Fred Carrier, Jen Shannon, and their long family tradition of apple butter making over a roaring fire, we'll be working to create this seasonal delight. Participants will be able to take some home and Goodness Grows will use the rest for fundraising! The end time is stated as a question because we just don't know. A possible estimate has the event concluding about 7pm, but it could be earlier or later. YOU are enthusiastically invited to join in anytime throughout the day to help! Volunteers ~ make sure to get your name on the list so you can receive a jar of apple butter.

NOTE ~ Volunteers needed to help peel apples. Stop by today or tomorrow to help, before 2:30pm.

Thank you very much for the donations of apples, jars, lids/rings, and sugar!
We could still use more apples and jars/lids/rings.

Prayer

For whom are you praying today?
How can we pray for you?

We are here to pray with and for you, anytime! Prayer needs sent by early Monday morning will be included in the weekly Joys & Concerns email. We are also glad to send out prayer requests and praise reports anytime throughout the week!

Encouragement

Thank you to Marcia Kreps for sharing and Darla Smith for writing these weekly bits of encouragement.

"I pray this week finds you blessed. Cool crisp mornings and beautiful sunny afternoons in the Northeast – love this weather and time of year. Just have a hard time keeping up on what to wear when we leave the house, huh? It would be A-OK if the weather stayed this way. I am so good with it. All the beauties around us God created for us to enjoy. We are so spoiled by God. He loves us so much and wants only the best for us."

"Which brings me to my WORD for the week, “PORTION.” I did some research to find out my thought of “portion” wasn't exactly what I had initially thought. My thinking on “portion” was more like in terms of just a piece. The Hebrew definition for “portion” is inheritance. How about that! God is our “PORTION,” OUR INHERITANCE. Not just a piece but ALL! How exciting is that? He wants us to have it all. We are complete in Him. He is the only “portion” we will ever need. Our “portion” is overflowing - way more than we can ever imagine. We need to adjust our thinking from not just a “portion” but the whole “portion” God has for us. I pray the Holy Spirit lets us see the whole pie, so to speak, not just what we think our “portion” may be. Let us take hold of our “portion” the “portion” God has for us. Rise above – take our place in Him. Joint heirs with Jesus. Have a wonderful, blessed week full of “portion” overflowing."

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I hope in Him!”

~ Lamentations 3:22-24 (NKJV)

New Info on Round Table

Grab a pamphlet in the Great Room to learn about an important new service in Mahoning County. The Mahoning County Special Needs Registry is a voluntary service open to all citizens with special needs who reside in Mahoning County. The registry is for any person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities due to a physical and/or intellectual disability who resides, attends school, or works in Mahoning County. Learn more HERE.

These pamphlets came to us thanks to the Beaver Township Trustees. (Thanks, Ron!) They also shared some info about home and roof programs available to any Mahoning County homeowner through the YNDC. This is not limited to Youngstown residents. This info is also on the round table.

News of the Week

Last Friday was a special day because intern Cameron came to visit and have lunch with us! We love it when friends come to spend time here. Thanks, Cam!

We have been enjoying more butterfly releases. These are always fun and exciting. Everyone wanted a chance to have these flying friends land on them this time!

This week has given us plenty of good weather for outside work, as we continue to get the fields and beds ready for winter. You're always invited to stop by and see what tasks we are up to...and join in on the fun.

Today we will be starting to peel apples and tomorrow we will be making applesauce, all for Saturday's Apple Butter Making. You are welcome to come join in the pre-event preparation fun! What makes today even more fun than apple peeling is our special lunch with Pastor Mike. He is smoking a turkey so that we can have a feast together! Thanks, Pastor Mike! We look forward to your arrival!

Tomorrow we say good-bye to Kelly, as she will be starting a new job getting hands-on experience being a baker. We will truly miss having her here with us daily, but we know this is a great opportunity for her, as she figures out her plans for the future. Thanks for everything, Kel!! You always have a home here at GG!!!!

We Are Collecting...

GG is collecting egg shells, egg cartons, plastic grocery bags, and coffee grounds. Please leave cartons and bags at the front desk. Egg shells and coffee grounds can be placed in the new black wastebasket to the left of the pew by the Café. Thank you for the items that have already come in!

~~~~~~~
For I was hungry and you gave me food;
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink;
I was a stranger and you took me in;
I was naked and you clothed me;
I was sick and you visited me.
I was in prison and you came to me.
.....When you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,
you were doing it to me.
