"I think tiny homes are an important component [of affordable housing]. I hope I can convince my colleagues to get more aggressive in looking at the possibility of a Tiny Home Village as a demonstration project." - Ojai City Council Bill Weirick
We are thrilled to announce:
Ojai's City Council has given direction to amend the Second Dwelling Unit ordinance to include tiny homes on wheels!

Many thanks to Ojai's public officials who helped make this happen: Planning Commissioners Chester Jagiello & Kathleen Nolan; City Council members Bill Weirick, Severo Lara, and Randy Haney. Thanks also to our consultant Dan Fitzpatrick who traveled from Fresno to give tiny house presentations at each meeting.
Lots of work still needs to be done by the Planning Commission to define the details of the amendments, but we're on our way!
Here are proposed items for tiny homes on wheels (THOW) under the 2nd unit ordinance:
* THOWs will be used for long-term rental as secondary units to the primary residence
* THOWs will be ANSI certified to comply with health and safety standards
* THOWs will be hooked up to a sewer system as a permanent dwelling
Tiny House Village is proposed in Ojai! City Councilman Bill Weirick has proposed city-owned property to be developed as a tiny home village for affordable housing. As a demonstration project, the tiny home village can be used as a model for other cities to follow. Very exciting! Please note this may take some time to develop as the focus is on amending the second dwelling unit ordinance... Stay tuned for future developments!
GET INVOLVED! If you're a local resident, we invite you to attend the upcoming meetings at Ojai's City Hall and make your voices heard! If you cannot attend, write a letter to the City Council members. The more feedback they receive, the better.
May this inspire change in your own communities! Cheers to TINY!!
