Happy Holidays !
I can't believe it's finally happening. I'm excited to announce certification for Sol Haus Design as a B Corporation - we're almost there! This certification has been a long-time goal which shows our commitment towards sustainability and social equity.
For many years, Sol Haus Design partnered with 1% for the Planet, supporting non-profits such as Ojai Valley Land Conservancy and the Honnold Foundation (founded by rock climber Alex Honnold). We've contributed thousands of dollars to help further the mission of these non-profit organizations.
BUT I want to do better than give monetary donations. There are many businesses that claim to be environmental and promote social justice - I believe there are more substantive ways to do it.
At beginning of this year, I decided to get certified as a B Corporation. It's a big commitment that costs a pretty penny. The rigorous process analyzes business practices and operations to make sure your company is aligned with its mission and values.
To help us with the certification process, we hired the experts at Everoot Consulting. We've been working with them for 9 months and we're almost at the finish line! We couldn't have done it without Becky, Avery and Natalie at Everoot - highly recommend!
NEW PROJECT: Tiny House Community
As a small business owner (with a staff of one), I always wondered if it was possible to make a positive impact on a larger scale... Well I'm pretty sure it is.
For several months now, Sol Haus Design has been quietly working with a local municipality on a passion project. Creating a tiny community with tiny houses. The goal is to create a template for other cities to follow. To create a model for affordable housing. My favorite part? Sustainability is a big focus.
When the time is right, we will be overflowing with excitement to share more!
Until then... My heart swells with gratitude for this opportunity for Sol Haus Design. As the founder and immigrant Filipino girl from humble beginnings, I ask myself what can I do to give back? I keep coming back to John Lennon's words: “You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will live as one.”
Cheers to audacious goals + big dreams,
