Emory Jones Worked Beauty Magic. . .

emory jones

Mr. Emory Jones.

Emory Patterson Jones a renowned hair stylist worked on the Magnificient Mile passed May 22nd. He was the first African-American to beautify on North Michigan Avenue. He was an educated hair stylist but also gifted with magical hands. He could do things with hair no matter the hair. He's the guy you went to when you wanted "special" as well as when you had "problems." He straightened, waved, curled, colored, ironed and it didn't matter whether it was kinky, nappy, curly, or straight Whatever it was, he knew what to do. Emory's craft was beauty and he did it with such ease. He was the master of mixing products and ingredients. His career started at the famed Fred Glaser Salon as a shampooer. Glaser was a stylist to Barbara Streisand and responsible for her iconic "looks." One day Emory styled a head and the rest is history, shampooing was over. The White gals were asking for his very special touch. He loved upscale shops because he said it is where he belonged and his way of styling knew no age, gender or ethnicity. Among those who sat in his chair, were, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Smokey Robinson, Diannah Carrol Lanie Kazan, Lena Horn, Nancy Wilson, Natalie Cole and there were his locals like Chaz Ebert, Renee Ferguson, Dori Wilson, Jocelyn Stoller, Cliff Kelly, Quinto Primo and countless others. Here are some of his tips, he insisted that the last rinse on your hair be with chilling water, that way the pores closed and the hair shines. He would sometimes add pure lemon to a rinse. Sometimes he would put a raw egg on your hair, with a rinse of course. Sometimes he would condition with mayonnaise. He would often mix color so as to make it perfect for a skin tone. And then here was the real magic, to make the hair shine. He would dip his curlers (on the stove, not electric) in Royal Crown or Bees Wax. It absolutely made the hair shine as it curled. He recommended to all that you sleep on satin pillowcases so as not to break your hair. He was amazing. Those of us who went to him would share our lives - good news and the bad news and all of the problems and issues, marriages, divorces and the in-between romances. After all we were in the beauty shop. I have witnessed women coming to town for Emory's specialness as they started new jobs which included corporate presidents to a new movie or an entertainment tour. Sometimes we gathered at his station to chat and catch up as we discussed movies, TV shows, film festivals, photo shoots, galas and of course weddings. Bill Dee Williams, a customer, would sometimes come to the shop to watch and sketch. Oh, my. We will remember Emory and miss him forever because he was a stylist that became a friend and was always there with the big events of life. He was loved. He will be funeralized Saturday, June 3 at St. James Episcopal Cathedral 65 E. Huron at 6. For some, the beauty shop will never be the same.

Megyn on Sundays. . .

2016-04-26-1461706991-2232608-megynkelly

Megyn Kelly

Come Sunday, former Fox News media star Megyn Kelly debuts on NBC’s new summer newsmagazine, Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly. Kelly promises “a mix of hard-hitting pieces that are somewhat explosive and new-making with more inspirational longer-form profiles and stories” and says the combination represents “a new form of journalism for me.”

Fox News fought hard to keep Kelly, who became a breakout star as a hard-charging host of the Kelly File, which was the second-highest rated in cable news, behind the “O’Reilly Factor.” President Donald Trump’s attacks on Kelly during the campaign helped turn her into an international celebrity and she was featured on the cover of the New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair and other publications. She also just published a best-selling memoir, “Settle for More.” She doesn’t elaborate on the network’s late chief Roger Ailes, or the fallout from his ouster and later Bill O’Reilly’s amid sexual harassment charges. When signing off the network, she offered a heartfelt tribute to Fox News and her viewers in explaining her "tough decision" to leave the network for NBC. She praised Rupert Murdoch’s family for their kindness towards her. Let's watch to see what happens. Go Megyn she took the big boys on and won.

Black Men Beware . .

th-2

Tiger Woods, the golf champion.

Here's a real news flash. Share it with your friends and then tell everybody. Black men beware. Your fame, your game and your fortune does not matter. Probably, maybe, just guessing, Barack Obama is the safest Black man in America and that's because he enjoys secret service. If you are stopped by a cop on the street ,"Driving While Black," you belong to him for a little while and he could ruin your life and take you to jail. If you don't believe that, ask usually clean cut, stellar golf champion, a wealthy man who sometimes refers more to his Asian half that his Black half - The Tiger. Poor Tiger Woods! He was arrested Memorial Day in Jupiter, Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence and later released on his own recognizance. Tiger Woods blamed the incident on prescription medications. Arresting officers, administered a Breathalyzer exam and his alcohol level was recorded at zero but the national news recorded him as a drunken driver. It seems that he mixed his medication and went asleep at the wheel and could not walk a straight line, thus the arresting officer thought he was "drunk."

About the incident, he said, "I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn't realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too," he said. He earns to this day about $45 millon a year via endorsements. None have dropped him from because of the incident, but somebody help him, because this is not the way a champion looks. Take the medicine and stay home and where is the chauffeur. Just asking.

Kathy Griffin Went to Far, Even on Social Media. . .

12MlHaTf

Kathy Griffin took it to another place on social media. But even in this age of insult and bizarreness, there is a line of decency. The provocative comedian Kathy Griffin raised eyebrows when she did a photo shoot with Tyler Shields, a self-described celebrity photographer known for his edgy imagery, holding a mock "decapitated" head of Donald Trump. Both Shields and Griffin posted a photo on their social media sites. Shields posted on YouTube video of the shoot with Griffin. The photo quickly trended online, and Griffin caught quite a lot of heat on social media. Obviously, she got a response and was forced to tweet by saying, "OBVIOUSLY, I do not condone ANY violence by my fans or others to anyone, ever! I'm merely mocking the Mocker in Chief."
Many of her critics responded with outraged tweets mentioning these sorts of sentiments: She's "pure evil!" She's a "dumb idiot!" She eventually did a video to apologize. Now the US Secret Service has gotten involved citing that their agency does not overlook this type of behavior, stating "Threats made against @SecretService protectees receive the highest priority of all of our investigations #ProtectionNeverRests," the agency said.

Trump tweeted about the photo early on Wednesday, writing that Griffin “should be ashamed of herself.” “My children, especially my 11-year-old son Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!” And meanwhile Griffin is lossing gigs all over the place.

Watch That Neighborhood. . .

th copy

As Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James played his seventh straight NBA Finals his off-season home was vandalized with a racial slur. They wrote NIGGER everywhere.

The vandals are investigating an alleged hate crime after someone spray-painted the N-word on the front gate of James’ house in Brentwood, Calif.

Dozens of active and ex-NBA players, if not more, make their offseason homes around L.A. James purchased the 9,440-square-foot house in 2015 for almost $21 million. He was not at the home during the incident and does not live there regularly.

Brentwood has its own complicated history with race. The L.A. neighborhood, which is more than 80 percent white and just 1.2 percent black, was home to O.J. Simpson and the site of the 1994 murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.
