Sleep Sacks at Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center

As newborns, our mothers swaddled most of us in soft baby blankets. Even as new parents, we probably swaddled our own infants. Based on the newest safe sleep evidence, the Women's Care Center at Alamance Regional Medical Center (ARMC) says swaddling is not the best choice for infant sleep.

An innovative product that provides warmth without bulk is a sleep sack. ARMC is in the process of replacing baby blankets used on their Mother Baby unit with sleep sacks to keep infants cuddled and warm. The Special Care Nursery at Alamance Regional made this conversion in late 2017.

“Our goal is to model Safe Sleep behaviors for our parents while they are in the hospital, and have those continue when they take their baby home,” says Jane Promnitz, Assistant Director of Special Care Nursery, Newborn Nursery, and Lactation at Women's Care Center- Alamance Regional.
