2. Individual Time Trial (ITT) and Season Format

The season starts with an Individual Time Trial (ITT).

Riders will be assigned a start time.
Riders will start in groups of 4.
Riders will go off in 1-minute intervals.
Riders will be timed and scored on a 2-lap race.

If a rider is late to their assigned start time, a 15-second time penalty will be applied.

The Colorado League Category Placement Criteria will be used to place riders in their respective category according to their ITT results.

Category Placement Table & Individual Time Trial (ITT) Scoring
The 2021 Category Placement Table (CPT) is based on the 2020 rider category and/or 2021 grade. The category placement table directs each rider to the category they should register for in 2021.

Riders will have an opportunity to petition to change their category immediately AFTER the ITT and before Race #2 XC. Once riders are categorized and ranked applicable points will be applied for team scoring.

Timeline for Category Placement Petitions for Individual Time Trial (ITT)
1. Preliminary Individual Rank, Time, and Category Placements ONLY will be posted by 5:00 PM the Monday following the ITT.
2. Category Placement Exception Petitions must be submitted by 5:00 PM Thursday following the ITT.
3. Category Placement Petitions will be reviewed by the Rules Committee and either accepted or rejected by 5:00 PM the following Monday.
4. Final Individual Rank, Points, and Team Scoring will be published by 5:00 PM the following Wednesday.

Awards for teams and racers from the ITT will be presented at Race #2.

We are very excited to welcome many new teams, riders, and families to the dirt revolution! An overview presentation of what to expect during the race season is below.

4. Race Venue Protocols: COVID and E-Bikes

We are pumped to gather and play in the dirt! Masks are required in three where people gather. Racers will only need to wear masks for about 15 minutes.

▪ Staging
▪ Start chute until 30 seconds to start
▪ Feed Zone (excluding racers)

All are responsible for following these requirements. Not adhering to these requirements will result in a Yellow-Level Consequence:

1st offense = Warning
2nd offense = 5-minute penalty or 50-point team penalty
3rd offense = 10-minute or 100-point team penalty

We strongly encourage everyone to get a free COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. This will reduce the spread of the virus and increase everyone's safety and comfort.

Class 1 E-bikes are allowed on the trail systems in ONLY three venues:

▪ Frisco
▪ Nathrop
▪ Granby Ranch

Coaches may ride a Class 1 E-bike during pre-ride.
All other non-racers, such as parents and family members may ride a Class 1 E-bike after pre-ride has concluded.

7. Sponsor Highlight: Town of Frisco & Colorado Mountain College Leadville

As we kick off the 2021 Season, we shine a spotlight on our two host communities of Frisco and Colorado Mountain College Leadville. Without their support, these events would not be possible.

The Town of Frisco and the Frisco Adventure Park has been a partner of the Colorado High School Cycling League since 2015. This community has welcomed the Colorado League with open arms and this year provides our riders with a new, exciting course filled with some outstanding new singletrack.

The Frisco Adventure Park offers summer and winter activities for the entire family. Whether you are interested in riding the bike park or playing a round of disc golf in the summer to sending it down the tubing hill or testing your lungs on their world-class Nordic trails, there is something for everyone.

In 2013, Colorado Mountain College Leadville hosted its first Colorado League race. Immediately, the venue and course became a favorite for coaches, riders, and families.

Colorado Mountain College serves 12,000 square miles in north-central Colorado. This beautiful area includes international resorts, ranches, wilderness areas, and former mining towns. Each year, over 20,000 students take classes at their 11 locations and online. Learning at CMC is personal, classes are small, and the faculty is friendly. CMC has a wide range of study areas from fly fishing guides to nursing. Earn a Bachelor's, Associate or Certificate.

8. Know Before You Go, Be Familiar with the Rules

Are you ready for a race weekend? Do you know how teams are scored? What is the staging process? Do you have to wear a helmet? Are there time penalties for receiving mechanical assistance or changing bikes?

Answers to all these questions can be found in the rulebook. It is linked in every race flyer and on the website.
