This Summer has been full of planning for Fall projects and experimentation in the studio.

I have been working on silkscreened textiles that combine the textile-dye printing technique I researched in the spring with more traditional printing methods and textile dyeing techniques. The image above is of a quilt (Discontinuous Intimacy, 33" x 32", 2014) made from hand-dyed cotton fabric printed with silkscreen inks and Breakdown Printing techniques. (More about Breakdown Printing at the bottom of my email.)

I am excited to share a curatorial project that I initiated: Fugitive Arts Project Space is a temporary gallery and event space dedicated to promoting experimental projects and emerging artists. Fugitive Arts will kick off it's three-month residency in the Eastworks building with a one-night mural on Saturday, September 13th 5-8PM (during Easthampton's Art Walk).

Publishing News

This Summer I also started a new publishing project, Sister Sister Books. The HQ Press copier moved into my studio after HeadQuarters closed in June, and I've put out a few new artist's books and have plans for an anthology of comics and a series of two-person artists' books to be printed this winter.

At the end of September, I will be an exhibitor at The NY Art Book Fair, presented by Printed Matter, Inc. I will be representing HQ Press and Sister Sister Books as well as my line of artists' t-shirts, ANXIETEES, for the four-day fair, September 25th - 28th at PS1 in Queens.

I was selected to be the September "Artist of the Month" at the Emily Williston Memorial Library and Museum of Easthampton. On Wednesday, September 10th, 5-7PM join me for a reception and Q&A sponsored by the ECA+ and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

In November, my monotypes will be on view in a one-person show at the Jasper Rand Art Museum at the Westfield Athenaeum.

What is Breakdown Printing?

Breakdown Printing involves applying thick dye print paste directly to the screen, which is left to dry. Once the screen is dry, it is printed off with more print paste, which gradually dissolves the dried-on material, breaking it down into an ever-changing array of colors, marks, and textures. If you're curious, Zea Mays Printmaking posted a video of my Breakdown Printing demonstration from Florence Night Out in May 2014. I've also written a little bit about the process on tumblr.
