Safety Precautions when Making Natural Perfumes

Before you start working with essential oils, absolutes, and other aromatic essences, be sure you’re informed about some basic safety precautions.

▪ Never apply directly on skin (neat or undiluted)
▪ Conduct a patch test on your inner arm
▪ Take a break from working with/wearing oils
▪ Use common sense, better safe than sorry
▪ Keep away from Children & Pets

If you’re serious & want to make products scented with aromatic essences to sell, we highly recommend the most comprehensive book on EO safety: Essential Oil Safety, 2nd edition by Robert Tisserand & Rodney Young (2014). It’s a very large reference book that covers 400 essential oil profiles & sells for between $60-$99. Robert has taught several Essential Oil seminars at The Nova Studio, and trust us when we say he knows his stuff. Another great source of info is his blog: RobertTisserand.com

6 Benefits to Making Natural Perfumes & Colognes

There are many reasons why people want to make natural perfumes. Here are a handful:

▪ It’s easy & fun! I would love to spend all day creating perfumes.
▪ You control what goes on your body – no “trade secret” ingredients here.
▪ Natural scents don’t typically bother people like “synthetic fragrance oils do.
▪ The startup cost is not prohibitive (as long as you don’t go crazy with pricey oils).
▪ Blends & combos you create can be used to scent all your other B&B products.
▪ If you decide to sell them, perfumes have a higher profit margin than most B&B products.

We saw this recent post from a trusted source/supplier that we’ve known & used for decades. Lebermuth offers 6 fun facts about smell. We enjoyed it and thought you would too. Did you know we taste with our nose (as well as our eyes & ears too)? Or that 5% of people cannot smell? I would be lost without my sense of smell. Read more smelly fun facts here.
