Mushroom - the Mysterious Fruit of the Forest
I love mushrooms all year, but especially this time of year. Mushrooms play a big part in the Slavic culture.
Every fall it was a tradition and necessity to pick wild mushrooms in the forests of Belarus.
Wild mushroom foraging isn't as popular in America, but we still did it every year on my parents' property. My favorites were always chanterelles (lisichki).
Of course, now that I don't live anywhere near a forest, I make the best use of store bought fresh mushrooms and also order try wild mushrooms to at least get a little reminder of my favorite and most flavorful mushrooms, chanterelles and porcini mushrooms.
