Dear Friend,

Spring is well upon us as you can see by my many hummingbird visitors at Diamond Heart -- so grateful to say hello to them all up close!

Planning for summer is well underway at IIT with the annual meditation retreats with Tanis in the Black Forest in Germany (in English) May 22-27 and at Diamond Heart in B.C., Canada July 19-25.

Our article this month focuses on the many ways that meditation can benefit you, with words from all of our retreat presenters. You won't want to miss it!

If you're one of our European friends, it's not too late to get involved in one of Tanis' workshops in Germany, Switzerland, Scotland or Spain in May and June.

Tanis' new book, Hybrids, has been getting rave reviews on Amazon, and it's now available on Kindle.

How will meditation help you and is it a worthwhile investment of time and money? In fact, does it work for everyone?

In our prove-it-to-me busy world, folks unfortunately are driven by material tangibles and meditation is subtle and pervasive in its gift, which only improve the more you practice.

I have been a meditator for over 40 years. During this time I have practiced TM (Transcendental Meditation) founded by Maharishi; been a member of a Tibetan Buddhist center; engaged in 10 day Vipassana silent meditation retreats and presently am studying the teaching of Paramahansa Yogananda. And this is far from an inclusive list of in-depth meditative practices that I have followed.

All these practices have been beneficial and I have discovered that what I need has changed over time. What has emerged more and more over the years is a need to sit, stand, or walk in silence speaking to the Divine. Furthermore, I have become convinced that silent meditation is the most important practice that most of us need. All emerges in silence. The answers we seek, heart opening, peace.

However, there are practices, such as yoga, spiritual exercises, sound, labyrinth, tapping (EFT) and etheric clearing tools to remove blocks in the physical and astral body that deepen the ability to receive the greatest benefits from meditation.

In our meditation retreats Love Yourself Well in May 22-27 in the Black Forest in Germany and from July 19-25 at Diamond Heart Retreat Centre located north of Vancouver on the seacoast, we will be doing all of these powerful practices. And for those of you who might not be familiar with them, I have asked each of the people who will be leading them to share a short introduction with you. Of course, it would be lovely if you wished to join us but even if you cannot I hope you will investigate these techniques yourself as a way of deepening your spiritual transformation.

Meditation in Motion
with Margaret Mills
margaret(a)innerformation.ca

Kripalu hatha yoga, which is beneficial for all levels of fitness, can be thought of as ‘meditation in motion’. In this practice, the start point is to centre oneself through focus on the breath. Full three-part breath starting in the belly is used to create a state of presence, of relaxation for body and mind, and of groundedness. In this meditative state, warm-ups are done for the spine and the muscles of the entire body, by means of gentle stretches.

Once the body is ready, postures flow organically from one to another with ease and grace. Focus on the breath is a constant, as is awareness of and compassion for the body. The final posture is shivasana. Here the student continues their meditation while lying on their back in stillness, completely relaxed. Yet, it is in this moment of physical stillness that the spirit comes alive, expanding from the body to accomplish the union of our individual soul with the universal Spirit.

Still your mind
Calm your nerves
Refresh your Spirit

The Spirit of Grace meets us where we are, yet does not leave us where it found us. Through a focus of loving presence over your chakra, endocrine and skeletal systems, grace purifies your energetic body so your spiritual world and physical world recognize their oneness. In my healing work I rely heavily on the instinctual agreement of body elemental intelligence and use silence and sound (chant or instruments) for you to achieve this oneness. I will be offering a free healing session to each participant in our meditation retreat.

Tapping
with Donna Miniely
miniely(a)gmail.com

Tapping is a great meditation technique for people who want to increase their confidence and effectiveness. What often holds us back in these situations is anxiety and fear. When we are in an anxious state, our body’s fight or flight response is activated and it can be very hard to turn it off. Tapping quiets the mind and calms the spirit. It can be done individually or in a group.

Tapping involves using your fingertips to tap various points on your hands, head and body which are energy meridian endpoints to communicate to your body’s fight or flight centre (the amygdala) that it is okay to relax. By using this with the appropriate positive affirmations, tapping can be used to remove long-standing energy blocks and fears caused by childhood and later traumas that are still activated to this day. This can be done in a safe way.

Spiritual Exercises
with Tanis and other presenters

Paramahansa Yogananda developed many spiritual exercises to assist meditators to open to undreamed of possibilities in themselves. As he said, “You realize that all along there was something tremendous within you, and you did not know it.” Tanis and others will introduce some of Yogananda’s most powerful techniques and give the scientific reasons behind their practice.

Walking the Labyrinth
with Sally Burnley
www.togetherwithdrumming.com

Each summer at Diamond Heart, we design our own labyrinth with a view of the ocean and use it as one of our meditation practices. After days of meditation in which we have practiced centering ourselves, we experience the physical and mental journey of a walking labyrinth. Walking a labyrinth is a powerful way to connect with the inner self and universe. (Because there is so much to be said about the importance of labyrinths as a meditation tool Sally will write more about the importance of walking labyrinths in the July newsletter.)

HYBRIDS: So you think you are human

by Tanis Helliwell

Our new book, just launched April 17, is now available on Kindle. (For our German friends, the paperback will be available in German in September.)

Myths, religions and archeological discoveries around the world discuss the presence of intelligent non-human beings who have interbred with humans creating hybrids. Tanis Helliwell offers convincing evidence about the existence of 22 different human-hybrids (elementals, angels, dolphins, giants, dragons, centaurs, pan and many others). People who discover they are hybrids report feeling more authentically themselves—more energized, powerful and self-loving—as a result of their discovery.

Read rave reviews on Amazon here! And, if you'd like to, we'd love it if you added your own review. Many thanks.
