We're in This Together!

During this time of uncertainty, all of us at the Pacific Northwest Experience want to ensure you and your teams are aware of the many resources available to frontline tourism employees. Organizations and businesses throughout the Portland metro area are proving that we do not need to be in our places of work in order to support each other. This support is being provided in so many different and creative ways. Please share these resources with your team members.

Looking for a job:
If you have team members that are looking for work opportunities during the tourism hiatus, Worksystems has created a list of companies in the area that are currently hiring. This list is updated daily and offers virtual interview options.

ORLA

Continuing Education:
The Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association (ORLA) is offering free Professional Development and Food Safety Courses as well as scholarship opportunities for those who qualify. If you have found yourself with some extra time on your hands, this is the perfect opportunity to increase your knowledge in the tourism industry. These classes are free to all, but please note that sign-ups end on April 30th, 2020. ORLA has also created a list of news and resources to keep you updated on the continuing changes in our industry.

Forbes

Additionally, Forbes Travel Guide is offering hospitality trainings via complimentary live webinars and videos. There are currently 10 different courses available each lasting approximately 45 minutes from now until June 25th. Visit the Forbes website to learn about the course options and to register.

Botanist
toro bravo

Food Sources:
If members of your team are facing food insecurity due to this pandemic and loss of income, please share these resources as well. Botanist House PDX has created the Botanist Meal Assistance Program, offering free meals to members of the service industry. Similarly, Feed It Forward PDX is the creation of the team at Toro Bravo Inc and focuses on providing meals to Portland's homeless and vulnerable communities. If you know of someone in need, please direct them to these fantastic organizations and if you have the ability to do so, please consider donating to the cause. Both organizations offer the opportunity to get involved via their websites.

PDX Tip Jar

Support Your Teams:
If you are looking for ways to support team members in the restaurant industry, PDX Tip Jar is a great way to do this. The website is exactly what the name suggests. You can either donate to a particular worker at one of your favorite restaurants or to a random worker via the virtual tip jar. If you have employees in the restaurant industry, please encourage them to sign up for this additional support.

We Need Your Help!

Email

As many restaurants, hotels, and other tourism industry businesses have recently closed their doors, we understand that many work emails have been disabled for the time being. Members of the Pacific Northwest Experience often utilize their work emails to receive all communication from us. As we know this email may not make it to members on your team, please share this newsletter with them. If they would like to share their personal email with us, please have them subscribe to our newsletters and event invites.

In addition, we would love to hear from you! In this unprecedented time, we have to stick together. Please let us know what your team needs and how we can support you.

Stay home and stay safe!
