boot camp collage with title

Hello Friends,

Didn't I tell you our next several newsletters would each contain an exciting announcement?! Here's this week's: We have a brand-new BUSINESS series of classes that we just can't wait to tell you about. We consider this one to be a dream boot camp for anyone wanting to start or grow their business.

You may wonder how our boot camps come to fruition. They are almost always a collaboration between Lori and the teacher in their conception. She's always scouting for that magical combination of passion, talent & willingness to share - that we need all our teacher to have. Typically, they start with a curious conversation and blossom into something that takes on a beautiful life of its own. Here's a little back story on this one.

Lori met Preston at The Nova Studio last year when he was TAing for Kenna's very first soap boot camp. Preston & his partner Tyler actually WON a competition for Kenna's highly sought-after soap business Gratitude Soapery. Over lunch, Lori found out Preston's story and she quickly realized what an amazing resource he was. He co-owned not one, but two soap companies, was very candid & willing to share information about the things that worked (and didn't) for him on his journey to success, and was clearly someone who was passionate about handmade products and entrepreneurship. AND... he was only a few short hours driving distance from the Studio. Lori had an idea... and asked Preston if he'd ever consider doing a boot camp where he could teach, inspire, and share anything & everything about starting and growing a business to help our customers succeed. His eyes lit up... and he said ABSOLUTELY, YES!

Many more hours of conversations, brainstorming sessions and emails followed... and the result is truly a once-in-a-lifetime learning opportunity that we're super proud to be hosting. Whatever step you're at in your entrepreneurial journey, take a look at the unique list of topics and skills Preston is ready to offer you (see below).

Also, in this edition of The Nova News below, you'll find a summary of all classes for July through November. Plus, SAVE $10 off our featured class handout - Lori's 3 Types of Body Butters - if you purchase before July 14.

One final quick note that we will be closed from Thursday, July 2 through Sunday, July 5. Studio Manager Cassie is now there for every single class at the Studio (so be sure to say HI next time you're here) but that means long weeks & she is ready for a long weekend :). Hope you all have a great Independence Day too.

Hope to see you soon at The Studio!

Lori and Preston had fun designing a course curriculum tailored to students of The Nova Studio. Together they curated 8 amazing topics for you, from getting the gritty details squared away, to perfecting your social media pitch and making do without taking out expensive business loans.

Bringing Your Business to Life: The Nutz & Boltz

Preston will join you at the starting line by helping you devise your brand name and tagline. Then, he’ll outline all of the necessary paperwork and tasks (such as securing a business name and tax certificate) you’ll need to begin your business, as well as explain how to navigate it all.

Ready, Set, Sell: Rockin' the Retain World

Preston will provide you with all of the tools required to rock the retail world and start selling direct to consumers both in person as well as online. This class will take you from product research and development all the way to handing off a customer’s order.

Finding Your Niche & Filling It

Preston will teach you how he has leveraged sales, new and sustained customers, as well as fruitful business to business relationships, by establishing a niche: incorporating unique, locally sourced ingredients in his products.

Success With Social Media

Figuring out where and what to spend your time on with Social Media can be daunting for a new business owner. You need someone "in the know" to tell you the most profitable and valuable platforms to use to connect with your target market customers and make money. Preston will cover Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Blogging, and Newsletters. If you’re searching for an unconventional, yet affordable, social media marketing strategy, then Preston is your guy!

Fun with Finance: Accounting Without Aggravation

As the son of a Certified Public Accountant and teacher of finance, Preston was instilled with the value of understanding numbers and their relation to your financial well-being. He’ll discuss bookkeeping, budgeting, debt, profit, financial planning, funding, market analyses for our industry, income & expense reports, profit & loss statements, projections, and taxes.

Getting it Done with What You've Got

Topics for this course include discovering or refining your brand, designing labels and promotional materials, how to manage supplies & inventory, determining how many products to offer, scheduling + effective time management, business to business relationships, reaching out to press & media, equipment/tools, visual identity (photography), as well as outsourcing burdensome tasks.

Philosophy: The Ultimate Starting Point for Entrepreneurs

Preston will help you uncover the practical applications of philosophical concepts, including business ethics in the real world, personal and professional leadership, education in the workplace, management styles, company culture, caring for your customers, as well as leading a virtuous and happy life.

What I Wish I Would Have Known

In this truly unique workshop, Preston will discuss all of the things that he wishes he would have known in his first few years as a business owner, in order to help you maximize the success of your company. Topics include: brand building, developing business relationships, business structures, taxable entities, intellectual property, manufacturing practices, regulations, and more.

This is just the briefest summary of what each topic will cover - for so much more, see Preston's detailed description page on our website!

3 Types of Body Butters

Body Butters are perfect for rough elbows, cracked heels and those hard-working hands. They soften and protect tender skin from the elements. And when you make it yourself, you know exactly what you’re putting on your skin.

This Class Handout describes how to make three completely different types of wonderful body butters using all-natural ingredients like Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Cocoa Butter, Virgin Coconut Oil, Beeswax, and proven antioxidants. These products can be 100% natural because the recipes do not contain any water (and therefore do not need a synthetic preservative).

You’ll get instructions and recipes for 4 (3 plus a bonus!) completely different body butters that are made to smooth and soften rough, dry skin.

For a limited time (until July 14) you'll save $10 (20%) off Lori's Body Butters Class Handout.

Already have this Handout? Check out the other opportunities to "Learn at Home" via Class Handout or eBook.
